What's new

Chinese one J-8II aircraft crashed

from the aircraft structure, seems like it crashed softly.

.
From the picture, it was likely the aircraft over-shoot the runway in relatively high landing or take-off speed, the pilot did not ejected as evidence by the ejection seat is still in the cockpit. Most likely he climbed down after the plane stopped.

. . .
The old J-7 and J-8 will be modified into unmanned aircraft.
.
Give them to Pakistan
we will place them in the center of round abouts

.
Are u kidding...?

It would be a waste of money to make it unmanned...

If you are going to scrap them, why not use them. You don't need to fit expensive avionic as in modern UAV, just put in some avionic for remote flight control meant to be expandable. Since air frames and engines are already paid off decades ago, there is no further costs for these.

They can be cheap expendable one way suicide attack aimed at drawing enemy's fire and depleting as much of defence's aam and sam before the main strike force arrive.

If a flight of 30 armed drones each carried one anti-radiation or anti-ship AGM, and say you have 3 flights coming in from different direction against an enemy fleet, that will be 180 targets for fleet defence to shoot down. And you would deplete 180 air defence missiles if the enemy fleet can achieve 100% hit rate which I doubt. And if just a few got through and scored that would be a bonus.

For peace time use. many will also be turned into practice target drones as well.
