In what way confusius society is far more open minded? what is the measurement?
If you can't understand why some people have different belief than yours, how come you consider your self "open minded" ?
Confucius societies never discriminate anyone because of his religion or his belief, unless he want to make trouble and crime to societies. It is totally different to Western values. They are too ideologist and anything seems to always go to so extreme (from communism to liberal democracy to Christianity values) that they cannot accept the opposition. in China and Vietnam we can accept the value of liberal democracies (or any governance system), but I believe no Western "democratic" government dare to openly admit that there are many great aspects of communism and there are many shortfalls in universal democratic system. In opposite, Confucius societies believe that there is nothing absolutely good and nothing absolutely bad.
For most Vietnamese (same with Chinese), Buddha, Confucius, Alla or Jesus are just like teachers or advisors, not "God" (sorry if I offence someone). We respect them but not follow them totally. Our late president Ho Chi Minh once said "I believe that Buddha, Confucius, Alla and Jesus will be good friends in the other world, because all of them want happiness to his people. I would like to become their little student".
In science development, there is no taboo area like in Western societies, past and current.
