Chinese Navys Type 054A Frigates visit South-east Asia
December.09 (China Military News re-edited from Chinamil.com.cn) On the morning of December 6, the Type 054A Xuzhou guided-missile frigate of the Navy of the Chinese Peoples Liberation Army which just accomplished its escort task in the Gulf of Aden and the waters off the Somali coast, arrived in Port Kelang, Malaysia to kick off a 3-day-long goodwill visit to Malaysia. This is the first planned stopover visit of the third Chinese naval escort taskforce on its homeward voyage.
It is said that the party headed by Rear Admiral Wen Xinchao, deputy commander of the third Chinese naval escort taskforce will meet with the deputy commander of the Malaysian Navy at the Ministry of Defense of Malaysia on December 8.
During the visit, the FFG-530 Xuzhou warship will be open to the citizens and the local Chinese nationals as well as overseas Chinese of Port Kelang for visit. The officers and men on the Xuzhou warship will also go to Kuala Lumpur, capital of Malaysia, for sightseeing and shopping group by group, attending banquet hosted by the Chinese community in Malaysia and taking part in friendly match of football.
Having successfully accomplished the escort task, the Xuzhou warship of the third Chinese naval escort taskforce set out from the Gulf of Aden on November 29 and arrived in Port Kelang after a voyage of 3,000-odd nautical miles in 7 consecutive days. This is the third visit of the Chinese naval warships to Malaysia since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1974.
At the invitation of the Singapore Navy, another Type 054A guided-missile Frigate, FFG-529 Zhoushan arrived at Changi Port, Singapore on December 7 to kick off a goodwill visit to Singapore.
The Zhoushan warship of the PLA Navy set sail for homeward voyage on November 29 and paid the goodwill visit to Singapore after accomplishing more than four months of escort mission in the Gulf of Aden and the waters of the Somali coast.
