Chinese Navy escort taskforce commander meets EU counterpart
Rear Admiral Zhang Huachen, deputy commander of the East China Sea Fleet under the Navy of the Chinese Peoples Liberation Army and commander of the 7th Chinese naval escort taskforce implementing escort mission in the Gulf of Aden and the waters off the Somali coast, boarded the Spanish naval escort frigate Canary Islands, the flagship of the No. 465 naval escort taskforce of the European Union /EU/ to have a meeting and exchange with Juan Rodriguez, commander of the EU No. 465 naval escort taskforce on the sea upon invitation.
Juan Rodriguez spoke highly of the efforts made by the Chinese naval escort taskforce in maintaining the security in the Gulf of Aden and the waters off the Somali coast. He hoped that the two taskforces could continue to keep good exchanges and cooperation and work together to safeguard the safety of the ships passing through the Gulf of Aden and the waters off the Somali coast.
Zhang Huachen briefed his counterpart about the situation of escort tasks accomplished by the Chinese Navy over the past two years, and the strength constitution, the escort routes, the escort mode and the distinctive features of the current escort operations of the 7th Chinese naval escort taskforce.
Zhang Huachen said that the Chinese naval escort taskforce and the EU No. 465 naval escort taskforce had maintained sound exchanges and cooperation all along. These exchanges and cooperation have played a positive role in boosting the mutual understanding between the warships of China and the EU escorting in the Gulf of Aden and deepening international escort cooperation.
The Chinese naval escort taskforce is willing to carry out further exchanges and cooperation on such aspects as intelligence and information with navies of other countries including the EU No. 465 naval escort taskforce.
During the meeting, the two sides also discussed such issues as how to strengthen joint cooperation in fighting against piracy in the Gulf of Aden and the waters off the Somali coast, and how to ensure the security of the passing ships including the ships of the World Food Programme.
