A Chinese national who was critically injured in Karachi on Monday when unknown suspects opened fire at his car has died, a doctor said.

Unknown suspects in a car opened fire at the Chinese national's car in Clifton, near Zamzama Park, in what police called a targeted attack.

Initially, station house officer (SHO) Clifton had said that the Chinese citizen, an employee at a shipping firm in Karachi, was alone in his car at the time of the attack. It later emerged that there were two Chinese nationals in the car when the suspects opened fire, however, one had managed to escape the crime scene. He has not yet been found.

According to police, the victim was shot in the head when the suspects opened fire at him. A 30-year-old passer-by was also shot in the leg.

"It appears to be a targeted incident," police said. Nine bullet casings were recovered from the site of the attack.

The injured were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where Dr Seemin Jamali confirmed that the Chinese national had received a head injury and was in a critical condition. She later said that the man died during treatment.

Sindh Home Minister Sohail Anwar Siyal took notice of the incident and ordered deputy inspector general south to start an inquiry into the matter.

"All measures should be taken to ensure that the suspects are arrested," the minister said.

India may target CPEC installations, interior ministry tells GB

Its a failure of our deep state and in particular our intelligence agencies (hint ISI) , they have failed to even grasp the basic idea about maintaining full spectrum deterrence. Time and time again we are failing our state because we simply cannot comprehend that below strategic and conventional deterrence, there exist something called sub-conventional warfare. Where enemy nations will hit you, through media, through war of narrative, and in this case, through the economic and financial sabotage. This type of warfare CANNOT, I repeat, CANNOT be stopped but can only be deterred if we start hitting them in the same coin. We cannot defend against such attacks, only we need to put the enemy nations through retribution swiftly and decisively , if and when such attacked happens on us.

Why enemy nations financial interests and foreign investments are not sabotaged is beyond comprehension.

Karachi is a security disaster. Needs to have surveillance cameras all around the city 24/7. This was a targeted attack too.

Batain karne sab ko atein hain. Reality is, we are constantly failing to create deterrence at sub conventional level. Unfortunately, our intelligence agencies have got military background and their understanding of deterrence is tanks, jets, ships, missiles, bombs and WMDs.

No one is talking about solution to this problem. And if they think they can defend against such type of warfare then good luck.

Agreed!!! Hit it where it hurts the most, the sweet spots, no need for any below the belt tactics though.

'Trade' could be the key, Pakistan is not showing any spine here where it matters. The conventional deterrence is fine, need a strategic threat deterrence.

Just to add, everyone reading this post should write some good words and condolences keeping in mind the numbers of Chinese friends present here at PDF.

Dirty Indians using their terrorist proxies

India is mothership of terrorism and responsible for spreading systematic terrorism inside Pakistan.

Yes, let's blame the usual suspects, of course. But it's possible these Chinese were involved in criminal activity (smuggling?), especially since one of them was an employee in a shipping firm.

People quick to blame other countries but not our security forces for not preventing this...

Isn't this a nice neighborhood? The Chinese were targeted? Presumably the assassins waited nearby to act until the security detail was absent so would it be natural for someone to notice and notify the police?
