Bhutan is an quasi independent Tibetan country pretending their language is Dzongkha -- but it is something like Bahasa Indonesia vs Bahasa Malaysia.

Happiness is a mental state.

There's a correlation between the more you want the less happy you are, especially if what you want is not fulfilled.

In most religion, being happy is extremely important, the mental state of being happy or not will decide your next life or after life.

The statement of being poor, having a simple life, easy to be satisfied... that preached by many religions worldwide are all about the mental state of being happy.

So, by keeping the whole country simple (or primitive/backward), and the basic needs are being fulfilled, without having other desires, the people will be happy.

Things will be different if someone is introducing our modern life to them, I believe the people of Bhutan will no longer be happy because their desire increase significantly up to the level they will be suffering by their own mental of greed. Suffering will lead to sadness and anger. Then it leads to hatred. And finally, what we know about Bhutan people, in the end, they will become criminal, terrorist, the evilest person on planet earth. Although deep down in their heart they know, they are actually just good people who desire to be happy, deserve heaven.

For feudalism perhaps it is a bit correct.

The start of the rise of materialism and at the same time lack of experience.

But for a caveman era, human tends to be pure hearted, as they less influenced by materialism.

Modern humans, despite the fact that they don't commit murder, their heart is darker, their mental state is more depressed, it's more like a mass murder time bomb (no wonder suddenly we have a school shooter or stabber on the news out of nowhere).

Modern humans, every day, are being teased by commercials, their desire is burning. The more they are exposed to commercialism the bigger their desire that needs to be suppressed, up to the level it's darkening their heart day by day. Not to mention in conjunction with the current economic system, half-heartedly they voluntary themselves to be slaved by working endlessly just to fulfill their desire for commercial products that they have been teased every day.

No wonder most of all, if not all, are going to hell when we die. Our dark mental state (depressed, mental illness, insanity) led us to hell. Dark mentality creates dark reality.


Indonesia is recently joined modernity since independent day around 78 years ago.

There are people who are still traditional, less exposed by modernity. And there are people who are modern that mostly live in the city. Traditional people tend to be kind, polite, and purer. But modern people who live in the city tend to have darker hearts, depressed, less polite (polite but fake), dishonest, greedy, etc.

The Northern part of Nepal are Tibetan, now having the names like Bhotia, Sherpa, so as to make them forget they are Tibetan. Then you have low land Tibetan such as Limbu, Gurung... the so call Gukas, but their dialect is no longer intelligible with Tibetan.
