In English they are all called Confucius Temple. U can check why they are called 文，has nothing to do with Literature(文)
We call them Wen Miao(wen=van in Vietnamese) too, but we call it Wen because Confucius was given a name called, 文宣王（Wen Xuan King). Here, Wen is a combination of culture/civilaion/language/literature. Calling it Literature is like calling all different meat pork. It's better to call it Confucius Temple in English since Wen is simply his another title.
well, this is more than just a temple worshipping confucius. for more than 1,000 years it served as academy, where vietnam most talented students were taught in classical chinese, literatur, laws, and chinese and viet history. all viet emperors recruited the graduates from the academy for administration.

Trạng Nguyên (状元) is the title given to ones who passed the imperial examination with highest mark in Vietnam feudal dynasty of Ly, Tran, Le, Mac. In order to get this title, you generally have to pass 3 exams called : Hương, Hội and Đình.
The first examination was opened in 1075 under Ly dynasty and the first guy who was given this title is Lê Văn Thịnh .There are 3 highest titles called : Trạng Nguyên, Bảng Nhãn and Thám Hoa.
However, Nguyen DYnasty stopped the imperial examination in 1919 and also the title Trạng NGuyen was abolished in Nguyen dynasty therefore the last guy who owned this title is Trịnh Tuệ ( 1736) during Le-Trịnh period. Through 184 examinations until 1919, there are 2785 Confucious scholars pass the exams and given various titles regarding to their marks and there are only 56 Trạng Nguyên. When they passed, their names were carved on the honor stele in Temple of Literature in Hanoi.

I can tell you, vietnamese language, scripts and grammar today have evolved wih the times, are a mix of classical chinese, added with a favor of chinese-vietnamese dialect (nom), a fresh breeze of french and portugese, and last but not least the indigenous people of southeast asia.
