Chinese Frigate Refloats

Only China can claim to be a "near peer competitor" of the U.S. in the assessment of U.S. military officials and think tanks.

RAND: "China becomes a near peer competitor"

if u r at number 2 position after USA undoubtedly u will be called the near peer competitor, but u shouldnt try to match ur 700 warship,1AC with some nuclear submarines naval fleet with 1600 warship,11AC and nuclear submarines USN
apart from the number there is a vast difference in quality which i dont need to mention,we r talking about made in china defence equipments with made in US defence equipments
now make a joke:lol:

What quality difference?

U.S. has Arleigh Burke with AESA radar. China has equal technology in the Type 052C AESA-radar destroyer.

U.S. has aircraft carriers. China has DF-21D ASBM.

U.S. has nuclear submarines. China has nuclear submarines. However, since the Chinese submarine fleet is primarily for defense, we see a large composition of diesel electrics and AIP submarines.

U.S. has Mark-48 heavyweight class torpedo. China has the Yu-6 Mark-48 equivalent heavyweight torpedo.

The technology looks pretty even to me.

even India has warships, stealth frigates of best kind, aircraft carrier and submarines ,so should i compare IN to USN
the technology difference is very vast
u should understand that u r compared to US becoz now u hold the second position not becoz chinese dragon has become very powerful now

Give me a break. India can't BUILD its own warships. They're all bought or licensed from Russia or an European country.

Can India or any other country produce an AESA-equipped destroyer? The answer is "no." You are clearly vastly inferior in technology.

Do you want to see a picture of China's second-generation AESA radar for the Type 052C destroyer? You Indians aren't even in the race and you're already falling further behind.

The US is working on an EM catapult. So is China.

Next-generation AESA radar for China's Type 052C destroyer undergoes tests

The current S-band AESA radar for China's Type 052C destroyer is convex-shaped. It has "a maximum range of 450km and a maximum resolution of 0.5 meters."

The new next-generation AESA radar is flat and square-shaped (shown below). Its capabilities are currently unknown.

Chinese Prototype For Electromagnetic Catapults For Aircraft Carriers

431.jpg

Ma Weiming

The designer of the system - Ma Weiming (马伟明), graduated from Naval Engineering Institute in 1982; in 1996 received his doctorate at the University of Tsinghua. Known primarily as a specialist in electric power systems, and submarines. He is currently a professor at the Naval Engineering University of PLA.

Due to his achievements in 2001 he was elected a member of China Academy of Engineering Sciences. Recently, Central Military Commission of the PRC decided to award him for the successful development of an electromagnetic catapult for an aircraft carrier.

It is noted that the length of the catapult is more than 100 m, it is a linear motor with a complex system of energy supply and management. High-performance power storing and power conversion systems, allows it to launch an aircraft within 45 second. To disperse the heaviest aircraft carrier-based catapult must expend about 120 megajoules. The system of accumulation and energy storage has a capacity of 140 megajoules, or power of 3.1 MW, and including energy losses - up to 4 MW. Given the presence of four catapults on the ship, as well as other systems, the ship will require a source of energy up to 60 MW.

So, apparently, this is the indication that the future Chinese aircraft carrier may have a nuclear power plant.

its not about what we make, its about what we have
but that is not the point i was making

Guys, military mishaps is not something unheard of, some come to light while others are covered up, following are two examples concerning Naval Vessels.

BBC News - Nuclear submarine HMS Astute runs aground off Skye

93 pictures accessed by TIMES NOW have revealed one of the biggest cover ups by the Indian Navy in recent times. The Indian Navy covered up a big collision that happened between two Navy vessels in the year 2009. One of the vessels involved in the collision almost broke into two. The two vessels were INS Ranvir and INS Kuthar and the incident happened off the Vizag coast.

dysfunctional sonar ? How the hell can it run aground ? was the captain a hovercraft pilot before his commisionning ? LOL !!

juvenile PLAN officers

If it was indeed an accident, the frigate nonetheless was repaired and suffered only light damage. The INS Vindhyagiri SUNK. Google it, it was only last year I believe.

China frigate heads home, averts South China Sea standoff
Sun Jul 15, 2012

MANILA/BEIJING (Reuters) - A Chinese frigate grounded in disputed waters close to the Philippines was refloated on Sunday and headed back home, averting a possible standoff with the Philippines navy amid rising tensions in the strategically key South China Sea.

The South China Sea has become Asia's biggest potential military flashpoint as Beijing's sovereignty claim over the huge area has set it against Vietnam and the Philippines as the three countries race to tap possibly huge oil reserves.

In all, six parties have rival claims to the waters, which were a central issue at an acrimonious ASEAN regional summit last week that ended with its members failing to agree on a concluding statement for the first time in 45 years.

On Friday, the Chinese navy said one of its vessels had run aground on Half Moon Shoal, about 90 nautical miles off the western Philippine island of Palawan, prompting Manila to send two of its vessels and reconnaissance aircraft to the area.
....

Manila says Half Moon Shoal falls well within its 200-nautical-mile exclusive economic zone, as recognized by international law.

"The incident in Hasa-Hasa shoal makes us nervous," Rommel Banlaoii, executive director of Philippine Institute for Peace, Violence and Terrorism Research, told Reuters, referring to Half Moon shoal in the Spratlys.

"I think what happened there was an accident, but we don't want such accident happening again because it could trigger something that all claimant states do not want to happen there."
