Chinese film industry aims to challenge Hollywood

Drunken master! Also, Snake in the Eagle's shadow!

This is some old-school classic Hong Kong cinema. :azn: I didn't know that you watched that stuff in India!

Don't sweat it. We're not.

He is a bit obsessed because challenger could not speak a word in Chinese and supports Japan's Invasion of China during WWII, just a hint.

where have you people been ? you were sorely needed here since the last three pages of this thread....:):):)

We were hiding since we were afraid that challenger might execute us for being the "Indian spies" that we are if we popped up :D :D :D.

Just ignore him, he's been busted already. You can link to the thread in which he was busted if you need to.

In that thread, challenger even claimed that "Hans" are NOT Chinese people. He also said that he supports separatists in Xinjiang and Tibet because he hates the Han.

Which might have been a bigger mistake than his support for the Japanese invasion of China in WW2. Actually no, you can't make a mistake bigger than that.

Chinese movies that are popular are confined to Action genre. Hollywood has inherent advantage in terms of exploiting the potential of English as lingua-franca. Chinese movie industry is far away from challenging Hollywood toe-to-toe. But I think Chinese movie industry should try internationalize itself more, before becoming a legitimate threat to Hollywood.

Indian movies have their sphere of influence, but they too are not International enough.

Recent Chinese warfilms, with the exception of The Assembly, are notorious for their lack of attention to details/tendency to tie in sappy love stories. They also mostly focus on the Second Sino Japanese War, which is a good topic but has been exhausted over the past few decades. I want to see more films on China's involvement in the Korean and Vietnamese War.

I'd love to see a movie made about this guy:

Zhang Taofang - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hong Kong has an obsession with "Triad" films. :azn: Infernal Affairs, Triad Election, A Better Tomorrow, etc.

I don't know why they make so many gangster films... Hong Kong has one of the lowest rates of crime in the world. It doesn't make sense lol.

Jacky CHAN USED TO BE MY HERO THAT IS UNTIL HE STARTED SINGING

Jackie Chan is moving away from action films into "drama" apparently. Well that is what he said he would do, but it doesn't seem to be going in that direction.

Has anyone seen this film 新宿事件? Shinjuku Incident - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nothing can beat his early work though, like Snake in the Eagle's Shadow and Drunken Master.

The director decided not to release it in the mainland, so it wasn't technically banned. Just not released there.

It wasn't even that violent...

The first Ip Man was quite good I thought, but I was disappointed by Ip Man 2 (the sequel). The action scenes were worth it though.

That's why I think the article's title is a bit misleading since Chinese cinema will not be able challenge Hollywood on a global scale in the next 10 or 20 years.

As others have pointed out, China can only claim niche markets like martial arts, until and unless Chinese replaces English as the lingua franca.

if they really want to sing the disgusting China india friendship song, why don't they go to indian forum and directly interact with the indians? Why in this forum?

Not taking sides in the dispute or questioning anybody's integrity but this part has always fascinated me. Some Chinese members, who also happen to be very pro-India-China friendship, come to Pakistan Defence Forum to learn about Indian culture? Seems very strange to say the least...

It's like going to dinner at someone's house and spending the evening praising their enemy.

And we all know that many countries use cyber-agents to spread disinformation and propaganda on internet forums.

Which Chinese member came here to learn about Indian culture?

Also, I believe that there should be peace in Asia, between China/India/Pakistan etc.

Tell me, who benefits from a conflict between China and India? Even if we decisively win a short war with them, our economy will be crippled and we will face international sanctions.

The only one who will benefit is the USA, because they want to "contain" us in our neighbourhood by using India against us. It's the West that is afraid of the rise of China, it is the West who will benefit the most if we have a mutually destructive war with one of our neighbours.

Given that India is actively engaged in hostilities against Pakistan on the diplomatic, propaganda and covert operations front, peace is elusive for the moment.

Did it occur to you that maybe India is not the starry-eyed innocent being 'used' by the West? That maybe India and the West's interests coincide when it comes to containing China?
