According to Ambassador Zhang Zuo, medical tourism will strengthen the relationship between Bangladesh and Chin

The Chinese ambassador to Bangladesh has said that the ties between Dhaka and Beijing are very close now and the relationship between the two nations is ever improving.

Chinese Ambassador Zhang Zuo made the remarks while addressing an experience sharing event on medical treatment and tourism, held at the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka on Monday.

The envoy said his country wants to give an extra push to broaden people-to-people interactions with the general people of Bangladesh, taking the bilateral relationship to a newer height.

He said: "Our hearts are getting closer now, our friendship is strengthened. The friendship between the two countries will be deeper than the Bay of Bengal.”

Among others, Deputy Chief of Mission and Counsellor Chen Wei, and Chairman and Chief Executive Officer HBM Lutfur Rahman also spoke on the occasion.

Earlier, China opened its doors for Bangladeshi citizens to get "affordable and quality medical treatment" in a bid to boost contact between Bangladeshis and Chinese citizens.

The Chinese Embassy in Dhaka is granting medical visas for Bangladeshi citizens to avail of the "high quality and reliable treatment" in China.

"We want to boost people-to-people contact between Bangladesh and China under the Road and Belt Initiative," the Chinese ambassador added.

According to him, medical tourism will help to strengthen the ties between the two countries.

Counsellor Chen Wei said there is a necessity of building bridges and roads, but people-to-people contact is way more important.

Chen Wei said: “The embassy will promote such initiatives in the coming days to strengthen our friendship.”

The Chinese officials encouraged Bangladeshi citizens and their families to share their experiences of being in China for treatment.

A group of patients, who received treatment in Kunming, fully funded by the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka, shared their experiencesat the event.

They lauded the quality, affordability and advanced medical equipment in Kunming, but urged the host-country to address the language barrier.

Irving Group, a business group in Bangladesh, facilitated the treatment of preselected patients at a hospital in Kunming.

Kunming again... It seems to want to undertake all the tourism business in China and South Asia.

Kunming would be cost-effective for Bangladeshis. A flight from Dhaka to Kunming takes less than 3 hours. But China must increase the number of flights to Bangladeshi cities to make it cheaper.

BD people should not visit China for the medical reason. BD-China relationship remains sored after the latter pushed back a solution for Rohingya issue. It will remain so until the Rohingyas cut off Arakan from Burma and deny its gas to China.

I don't think the relationship between China and BD has deteriorated.

Of course, unilateral ideas are not excluded.

BD and IC need to act against Myanmurder. If Burmese are unwilling to to treat them as human beings and citizens, then they should just let them live in peace and have autonomy. That means creating a Safe Zone for the Rohingya on the western tip of Rakhine along the BD and India borders and the Kaladan River. The area between the Kaladan and Naaf rivers should be a buffer zone.

It's time to smoke out these Burmese rats. They have weaponized the refugee crisis to destabilize BD and eventually the entire region. If BD doesn't act now, it will come to regret it 20 years from now.

Myanmar is an antagonist as long as those military jokers are in power.

Also, China has its own reasons for supporting Myanmar over Bangladesh.

So that needs to be kept in mind.
