Chinese drama "Journey of the flower" is sweeping Vietnamese audience

Meh, I like manly series.

Song is epic, this series is very good though I have to skip quite a bit of it (like probably amount to 10 episodes on irrelevant shit). Two parts that moved me deeply. The first was Han Xin became the general and the music played in the background while the army is protesting, and Liu Bang just left Han Xin hanging. The second part is at the end of the series where an aged Liu Bang just rush out into the crowd and dance along with others. Liu Bang fascinated me. His dirty tactics would make quite a match against Cao Cao. I believe Liu Bang's actor is quite famous. The director just came off from directing 3 kingdoms so he recycle some actors and the feel is very much the same. But I believe this series wasn't very popular in China.

The old Three Kingdoms have a special place in my heart. Although I never saw the old one in its entirety in Vietnam, I did saw it in the USA. But the music of the old one reminded me one of the poorest time in my life. That came off from the time I live like a hobo, and in our first house after my parents divorce and horrible custody battle which my father almost killed me. I think I probably 4 or 5 years old. I didn't have a tv then and I recall watching an ambush from a neighbor. I remember how old everyone is. I never draw the distinction between someone who is 23 or 43 or 65, if they had a beard then they are old. The place where I live had tin roof full of holes. When it rains, basically everywhere is wet. And here, I had to go pee outside where I saw a huge snake slithering by. And drinking and showering in the rain. But the thing I remember so distinctively was watching a corner rat biting a dog to death. That stuck with me to this day. The song is so classic and very fitting.

The remade is very awesome. Fleshed out characters that you don't know much before like Xun Yu, Lu Xun, etc. Love Cao Cao, Sima Yi, and Liu Bei's portrayal. Always have a soft spot for Huang Zhong. An old man seeking a chance of glory. So many nice characters.

Speaking of childhood. Can't stance to watch both of those series now. The logic make no sense, dialogues are bad, effects bad, etc. Though, when I was in English Second Language class, I was actually able to communicate those characters name with my chinese friend (who was also my best friend at the time). Still remember the introduction of the five rats in Bao Qing Tian and Sun Wukong trick people to drink his pee.

Don't think I ever finished this series. Don't even remember the viet name for it. It is a pain in the *** when titles are in English, Chinese, and Viet and I can't really associate one with the other. But from what I remember the beginning was great. Included this here because the opening song is pretty epic. It is always nice to learn the background historical characters because Jin Yong's Duke of Mount Deer is one of my favorite story.

You see a lot, dude.

Still romanticize Three Kingdoms a lot. Finding the right lord, and sacrifice your whole life to that person could be a nice life to live. Sigh, if that era wasn't so shity and that most of the chinese population wipe out during the long unrest. I would love to live in the three kingdom era.

I have to include these 2 together. For the most part in Vietnam, I didn't have a tv. Still recall watching Journey to the West on the tv of a neighbor through the metal rail. Even when we got the tv, my mom sorta forbid me from watching tv series with multiple episodes citing "addiction" is bad. I got my fix in whether wuxia or judge Bao through mostly my weekend visit at my dad's place. It wasn't until the USA where I got to binge through Chinese tv series. It was good to actually watch the old Legend of the Condor Heroes through at that time. Because a few years later I couldn't stand those old special effects. Hong Qigong and Huang Yaoshi are very unique characters. When I visit my paternal grandma in Virginia probably in 2003 or 2004, I returned with couple bootleg series. And it is those 2. Fist of Fury is amazing. The song just pumped you up so much. lol, seeing Donnie Yen in his hayday before his international movie career is kinda silly now. Although I also like the 2003 Tian Long Ba Bu. The 1997 was extremely enjoyable. Though many wuxia fans seemed to agree upon that this 1997 version is the apex of Jin Yong adaption. And Tian Long Ba Bu is his best wuxia story (many consider Duke of Mount Deer is his best work but not enough fighting to consider as wuxia I supposed). The trio of brotherhood is awesome.

Well in middle school, I tried hard to catching up on binge old chinese drama. Two stand out around this time was these three I supposed. The era of Gods of Honour is fascinating. I like this version way better than the remade. The remade trying to be faithful or something. But it ended up making no sense. People taste in story thousand of years ago is not the same at today. You can't have god beat god and then bringing in bigger god to beat god. But Benny Chan is an awesome actor (like him more than Dicky Cheung who appear in similar roles). I love his rebellious nature the same way I like Monkey King. Born from a rock, no one care about. And now have to follow the rule of society? The mother of Benny Chan is awesome in this. Very touching scenes between those 2. The thing about chinese series is that they always have some of these annoying *** women who annoy you so much that you want to punch them for the sake of the protagonist. This show is no exception.

Young Justice Bao is very good. But "stole" many elements from Detective Conan. Chinese detective series has been a thing long before Japanese Detective Conan. But as a fan of both you can clearly see where some of the ideas was lifted from. The copy right issues seemed like a big deal. Recently there is the annoying Yu Zheng (destroyer of Jin Yong) was sue for that. And thank gosh he lost the case.

What the f is this. It is in the back of my mind. Can't remember jack about it. Something about turtle and something scary about this show that I can't possibly remember. Probably expose to this at very young age.

CCTV's soapies on Chinese history and ancient novels are very good.

Sorry about the spam. I hate to look up these series. So I may as well use this occasion to compile the ones I like and bookmarked this thread so I can go back to them.

Some more manly music from Jin Yong adaptions. The lyrics are pretty awesome.

Nice song, but not perfect series.

Dang the lyric is so nice. Nice director, nice effect, the opening story was awesome. And then everything went to shit from there. These story that published weekly/monthly just not up to par if the author write and rewrite and fix his draft before published the whole story.

Can there be a more manly song? But these classics is not suit to the modern day's taste of pacing. Three Kingdoms 2010 had to change a lot (a good thing). Whether the new Gods of Honor or Journey to the West or Water Margin. Some of the story elements are just too frustrating to modern viewers.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Of the newer series. I only found 2 acceptable ones so far.

The Vigilantes In Masks ep 1 Engsub | Romance Chinese drama - YouTube

Thiếu Niên Thần Thám Địch Nhân Kiệt - Tập 1 (Thuyết Minh) - YouTube

Young Justice Dee is very similar to Young Justice Bao. Where Young Justice Bao borrowed heavily from Detective Conan. Young Justice Dee is refreshing and seem much more original in those murder cases.

I have a hard time stumble upon newer chinese tv series that watchable by my standard. It feel like they just don't live up to the old ones or something. I watch much more American, British, and Japanese tv series nowadays.

Last one,

The only memory I have of my paternal Grandfather who had passed away. I seriously can't remember anything about the guy outside of this series.

What site that is?
10 million views is fake views. Vietnamese youth mostly use youtube. The most controversial Vietnamese movie Bui Doi Cho Lon, generate debates on every Vietnamese news headlines have 2 million views max on youtube. 10 miilion views for Chinese sierie, that out done any hollywood movie to date, which less than 1 million view. Many illegal movie video site use fake counter.

The problem is that it is a bad source. You have 13 million view yes. But that need to be divided by all the episodes and also since it is the internet. People can click on a few episode and may drop it at first episode and or someone who watch an episode then paused then return to it the next day. All of those can contributed to views. Those are factors of why those views seemed high.

But that one site isn't the only way for a Viet to watch. Viet have multiple of streaming sites and youtube. Some refer sub, some dub, some English sub. Some download them (I think that isn't as popular anymore but people still do it so they can watch the fan translation first). Some watch them on television.

These factors add in more views. What is the actual views? Who know.

Let take Game of Thrones from the USA for example. It is a huge show for HBO. However compare to the biggest show at the time (Big Bang Theory), those views are smaller. But one need to factor in HBO required paid subscription, so not many people gonna watch it through HBO. Also, Game of Thrones is the most pirated show right now. Downloading is where the majority people watch any show. Take that into consideration, then Game of Thrones is way more popular than the Big Bang Theory. etc.

It seems like you got excited for nothing. This series is 50 episodes long, 13 million is the total views for the whole 50 episodes. So the number of individual people who have watched the series is only a fraction of 13 million because you have to divide the 13 million into the 50 episodes.

The real number of people who watched the series can be determined by the number of views from episode 40-49, because people who are not interested in the series will still click on the first few episodes and the last one out of curiosity. So from episode 40-49, the average number of people who have watched each episode is only around 140,000 people. So 140k out of 90 million population is very small (mostly housewives).

For example, this Indian bollywood film dubbed into Vietnamese has over 5 million views on youtube:

So the 140k (even we can raise it to 200k for the late viewers) for that Chinese series is still only a tiny fraction of the 5 million views of this Bollywood film.

And lastly, please stop creating thread related to Vietnam, good or bad. Most of the Vietnamese members has decided to leave this forum. So stop making threads or posts related to Vietnam and you won’t have any problem with this Far East section, fair deal isn’t it?

Otherwise, if you and your friends keep creating threads or posts related to Vietnam, good or bad, then I might have to come back to this forum and create threads about China, good or bad. Deal?

@TaiShang, tell your friends too.

come on, ZINGTV is only one source for this drama
this drama has been on youtube and a lot of youtube accounts have uploaded the series, and due to copyright issues, many videos of this drama has been deleted and then uploaded, and then deleted, so the number of views are distributed into many sources,
