Chinese C-17 Globemaster ready

Chinese domestic Y-20 large transport aircraft will come out in 2012.

The first aircraft of Y-20-001 was being assembled in China ShangXi aircraft company.

It will be the first domestic large transport aircraft designed & produced in China, similar to C-17 Globemaster.

In fact, I also doubt the news! I hope it is true, Maybe yes, Just like before the unveil of J20!!!
But we have to wait many year for Y20 before they enter into service!!
can't Wait for the 2012.1.11. see which weapon PLA will be publicized!!!

As much as I'd like to troll you kids, with the import of the ll-76 frames from Russia, 2012-2014 seems to be a plausible period for completion.

How its performance lives up to the C-17 is another issue.

It will not be more than a few years till China has this aircraft in Service and it will be completely indigenous.

Also, I personally cannot wait to see the successor to the KJ-2000 AWACS radar being put into this beast. It's huge load carrying capacity and power from the four engines will allow a massively powerful radar that could even be effective against stealth platforms such as F-22.

can anyone tell the specifications ...thanks
Currently 603 Institute, XAC and SAC are developing an advanced 4-engine large transport (Y-20?) which is smaller than American C-17 and based upon some IL-76MD technology. As the result assistance was sought from Antonov Design Bureau in 2008. Its max payload was expected to be around 50t and max TO weight >200t. Fitted with high-lift devices along the wing leading and trailing edges, the aircraft is capable of taking off from relatively short and unpaved runways, making many temporary airfields behind the battlefield accessible. Currently it is unclear whether the aircraft will have an IFR probe installed or not. The prototypes and the initial batch may be powered by Russian D-30KP-2/WS-18 turbofans, later by the modified WS-10 (WS-118?). A full-scale metal mock-up (head section) of Y-20 was constructed by 2008 and the first flight is projected in 2012. On August 20, 2009 SAC started to build the rear fuselage of the first prototype. It was reported (April 2010) that the full-scale mock-up was completed in early 2010. It was also rumored that the aircraft might serve as the testbed for the Chinese airborne laser weapon prototype similar to American YAL-1 which is thought to be under development. Y-20 is also expected to be converted to a tanker replacing the obsolete H-6U (see below). It might also serve as the carrier of the next generation AWACS replacing KJ-2000. In addition the next generation of medium transport aircraft was rumored to be under development at XAC/603 Institute as well, powered by two modified WS-10 turbofans. Its max payload is around 25t.

If I am not wrong, read somewhere the indigenous Transport (Y-20 or some other) that could be in atleast 3 Variants the later one with stretch fuselage, could be for AWACS-AEW&C Platform and similar to USAF Joint STARS. Extensive use of composite materials, longer range, powerful radar in nose cone and for if J-STAR like product surfaces and an AWACS variant.

Lets hope if things go as explained. It is a serious brief program that would replace phase out russian IL-76-78, older H-6 post 2020+
