  World-renowned Chinese mathematician Yau Shing-Tung has announced his retirement from his position at Harvard University to teach full-time at Tsinghua University in Beijing, aiming to help China become a maths powerhouse within a decade.
  “This is a major decision in his life,” said a colleague of Yau’s from the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing.
  Although Yau, 73, had spent a lot of time teaching for free in China in recent years, the new move means “he’s ready to leave five decades of life in the US behind, and devote all his time and energy to promoting the development of maths in China,” said the colleague, who did not wish to be named.

Why India doesn't have any original innovation then? Isn't India an open society? Original innovations or breakthroughs are often developed in US because it is the richest and most powerful country. 1) US has money so it can absorb talents from other countries and invest huge money in science. 2) Rich people and top industries have demand for new technologies. Which creates motivation for innovation.

calm down. Whether we like it or not , modern society is based on everything western.
Chinese cities are carbon copies of western infrastructure. Everything i was shown in modern china was of western origin.
All innovation has come from the west and some from Japan.
China has copied well and for that it gets credit. But you have zero innovation(apologies to tik tok ).
Even this guy has honed his knowledge for 50 years in the west and now wants to contribute to china.

Open society doesn't help much for Innovation

India is not a open society.
our institutions have the Asian traits of hierarchy codified in their genes.
A few exceptions might be their but by no means will entrenched people allow young talent to thrive. Follow the rules.
We have a even worse trait of pulling people down who want to make a change.
