Bhopal: Former Army chief General VK Singh has said that China's army was getting stronger each day and there was a need to modernize the Indian Army to meet any eventuality. He also said that China was still following its previous policy of imperialism.

Participating in a discussion on "Imperialism of China and its impact on our internal security and our role" in Bhopal on Thursday night, Singh said China was expanding its network in other neighboring countries also. "China's army was getting strong each day and there was a need to modernize the Indian Army to meet any eventuality," he said.

Singh said while the situation was stable in the north-eastern states, the central government should make efforts to resolve issues facing people there. The former Army chief said vote-bank politics was a major threat to security of the country and pointed out that the number of Naxalite-hit districts in the country has risen from 52 to 270 due to government's policies.

He was always warning but the government never did anything about it. I appreciate his sincerity regarding defense concerns of the country but it is incumbent upon the curreny Joint Chief to start taking things seriously. The current chief of joint services needs to understand the importance of why we need to have a comprehensive plan that details defense acquisitions for the next 30-40 years. Without a plan, there will be no strategy and no approach defined to achieve military self-reliance and dominance.

We are evolving bu our rate of evolution is much much slower than that of our enemy which is not a good thing. While panicking is not the need of the hour, we must ensure that we don't have to end up doing that someday soon. The government unfortunately has to be so busy arranging menial things like the bottomless pit of reservations, poverty alleviation programs (which never realize their potential due to middlemen eating everything) and other bullshyte like that, that we stop focusing on overall national development and parameters required to seriously ascend to the next level.

Before taking global matters in our hands, it is essential that we solve internal matters first.

Just look at an election campaign and see how myopic the civilian politicians in this country are. They use the "daaru chikan" formula, arrange dance parties, use cheap language, openly buy and sell votes etc.. who have you heard seriously concerned about military and foreign policies? Not a single party.

The NDA of Vajpayee era was serious about military but after that, all parties have become equally pathetic. If there is any effort, it is at such an individual level that its effect is negligible.

This is where it is the government's responsibility to wake up and smell the coffee before it is too late. Once earlier in our history, we have been rudely woken up, thanks to the witlessness of the founder of the current regime.

Let's not make it happen all over again in a different form.

The Chinese army seems to be on steroids! The IA is on dal roti!

But never mind. We can still hang our enemies by their balls! :azn:

Sensible words. The biggest enemy India faces at the moment is not outside of India but are instead the cronies in charge of India, who look out for themselves before the country. The ex-army General in the OP is probably one of those who have reaped the rewards of lobbying for more public funds to be diverted to defence spending, no doubt getting nice rewards from arms dealers for doing so. India already possess enough military force to deter anybody, including China, from any aggressive behaviour. The China threat is being exaggerated for ulterior and no doubt selfish motives. Indian taxpayers money could be better spent on building more domestic infrastructure, improving basics like clean drinking water for everybody and reliable electricity supply throughout the country. Improving the livelihood of the average Indian should be the Government's priority along with access to good education and healthcare for everyone. Once people are healthy and educated, then India can push forward with their economy.
