Congratulations on the completion. I hope the government can liberalize the use of airspace a little more to reduce the horrendous delays.

The current airport was opened in 2008, for Beijing's 2008 Olympic Games, that was only a decade ago, it is also a colossal one, being declared the largest and most modern airport when put in operation, can fit in several Heathrows and still have room to spare, now it built a new world biggest airport on the other side of the city.

Budget always goes up with the progress of the project, that's the latest figure, but could have supporting facilities included.

Having multiple airports for a city like Beijing is a must. It was smart to build on opposite parts of town to service larger areas and reduce traffic into the city. Your rail system is very good as well. The only problem I have is the Chinese maintaining strict control of airspace. This policy will lead to big delays.

About 1 hour. Daxin airport express line -> Line 10 -> Airport express line.

If you are really interested in knowing the physical distance, it's 65 km as the crow flies.

why would you ever need to travel between the two airports? like are airlines seriously going to give you "transfer"?? flights in different airports.

Yeah I didn't understand what was the point of his query either. Hardly anyone would land in Daxin and then travel to the Capital airport for a connecting flight. One in a million may be.

You do have such transfers in quite a few places. Shanghai Pudong-Hongqiao, same thing in UAE with 10 airports on a piece of land the size of Beijing-Tianjin conurbation. London and Moscow also have more than 2 airports, with transfers being common.

Funny fact, once upon a time there were flights in between Hongkong and Guangzhou, and Hongkong-Macau, all because it was more convenient to pass the border in the airport, rather than with "lowly proletarians" on land or sea border crossings.
