* Defends business dealings with Iran during Middle East visit

* But warns Tehran against any move to acquire nuclear weapons (Adds Chinese foreign ministry comment)

By Chris Buckley

BEIJING, Jan 19 (Reuters) - Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao defended his country's extensive oil imports from Iran against Western pressure to consider sanctions in comments published on Thursday, and yet forthrightly warned Tehran against any effort to acquire nuclear weapons.

Wen spoke at the end of a visit to the Middle East, against a backdrop of tensions over Iran -- which Western powers say is focused on developing nuclear arms --and possible U.S. sanctions on companies engaged in energy trade with Iran.

Iran has insisted its nuclear goals are peaceful, and in late December threatened to punish the latest Western sanctions by choking off oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for much of the Middle East's oil exports.

"China adamantly opposes Iran developing and possessing nuclear weapons," said Wen, warning against any confrontation in the Strait of Hormuz. Beijing is usually much more coy in public about saying Iran could want nuclear arms.

Speaking at a news conference in Doha on Wednesday, Wen also took aim at both potential threats to China's oil imports: the U.S. sanctions pressure and the Hormuz tensions.

"I also want to clearly point out that China's oil trade with Iran is normal trade activity," he said in response to a question about U.S. and European efforts to curtail Iranian oil exports and revenues, according to a transcript on the Chinese Foreign Ministry's website (www.mfa.gov.)

This might come as sad news for those here that bet on china not caring about Iran going nuclear ( weapons). Many emotions are going to be martyred after reading this I suppose  . Sorry but you get any prize for that.

You know why china said this when typically they love them their radical countries? Two guesses for which two countries they covet doing business with that told china to speak up? One they love to get more military tech from and the other they love to get more oil from

.
What surprised? A nuclear-free Middle East is China's basic principle in the past. Not new.

. . .
nuclear iran is not in anybody's interest with already tensions of nuclear conflict mounting and it is getting difficult to reduce tensions between nuclear countries the last thing we need now is another nuclear country but still iran has all the right in the world to go nuclear if it feels threatened by another nuclear power

.
Well of course in public we're going to say 'no nukes for Iran.' We can say 'no nukes for Brazil' too.

Privately we don't care nearly as much as Israel, Saudi Arabia and USA. :D

nuclear israel india US russia UK france china pakistan and etc should not be interest of anybody either.
its all depends ,i personalty prefer a world without any missile or fighter or navy .and the thing is unfortunately world is not that ideal yet.
i dont think we go nuclear not till they nuke us.

. . .
Exactly right. :azn:

America has already accused us of transferring missile technology to Iran.

So whether we do it or not no longer matters.

Yes china supplied missiles to Iran, and we know they are top missiles, remember an Iranian upgraded c-802 called noor put a hole the size of a truck on a israeli warship lol

and yet they call chinese technology cheap and crap, but what they dont get is that the joke is on them since china only sells cheap goods to the retarded westerns.

Exactly buddy.

And they can't blame us for continuing to do it, after all, they already accused us in the first place.

Once you break the nuclear weapons barrier, then America will give up. Like what they did when North Korea bombed South Korea, or when Russia invaded Georgia in 2008. :azn:

^^
I personally believe Iran has the nuke, How stupid would they be If they already have not?
Iran has some top centrifuges now, they are 6 times faster than the previous and 10 times more powerfull.

Yep, what you need now is improved minuturization technology, and possibly thermonuclear technology.

Your delivery systems are already really good.

Hopefully our two nations can cooperate on such technologies, though Iran is certainly capable of doing it by themselves if given enough time.

.
Yes Iran and china need to cooperate much more, we have outstanding minds, look at the contribution we made to maths and science even though the outsiders try and steal it from us, like how arab say khwarezmi and ib sina is an arab and how british say they invented Calculas when it was a chinese person who first used it.

And I am sure we are cooperating right now as we speak, I am sure Iranian and chinese scientist are working on the RQ-170.
