They couldn't abandon the KMT but needed PRC to represent China, hence they kept their Taiwan card while allowing China to take over KMT spot in UN. Who cares how many uninhabited islands certain countries claim to own? Show me some infrastructure like port facilities, harbors, and airstrips. How do they defend any of these islands when push comes to shove and China begins to take the islands one by one? Other than US intervention, none of these countries have a chance.
