China’s ‘rent-a-foreigner’ industry is booming

ok, then your previous post did explain it. Not that I understand, but what? How is that related? I mean I guess it explains one of the uses for Caucasian people. What are we talking about.

People try to cheat people? There's too many reasons on why people do that, the scale of the scam, and things like that. Believe me it's not a problem exclusive to China.

Overall, this is way over the scope of this discussion.

I thought this was a discussion over the view of Caucasian people by the Chinese.

The video I posted is the video that the OP was talking about.
"Foreigners are being hired to pose as celebrities by Chinese real-estate developers to help agents sell property in “ghost towns” by making them appear more animated and worldly, according to a new mini-documentary released by The New York Times....."

The NYTimes was talking about a short documentary about "Rent-a-Foreigner" in China. I posted the full video it was referring to. it aired last Thursday.

One Direction, most popular band in US, Gangnam Style, Mercedes, Lambo, Gucci and Hermes, Bond and Beckham, Fengshui and Yoga.

Americans like foreign things, America hates itself. One can come to any number of conclusions.

Caucasians are a rarity in China and Asia in general. One example is I grew up in a small town, but I been in a big city before that. The big city(vancouver) had mostly all Chinese where I lived, dating a white chick at that time was rare, me being 9 years old had something to do with it, but still.

When I moved and everyone was caucasian, and I was the only Asian kid, all my girlfriends and friends had been caucasian. When I again moved to a big city(Calgary), I have some immigrant friends who are fascinated by white chicks, when I can barely notice them.

America and Western world in general are very diverse and thus no one race is any more fascinating than the other(Zayn Malik, come on dude), China lacks this, thus to them, what is normal, isn't normal.

Having something foreign, nobody had, it's just a status symbol, it's cool, it distinguishes you.

But you can come to any conclusion you wish. I could care less.

The exotic will always find appeal , and in the case for fairly homogenous societies such as Japan, China, Korea --- the 'western' look is very much exotic, different. Perhaps that's the reason why their beauty has some kind of appeal in our media. You grew up in the west, so i can understand your fondness for foreign women, specially when the communities you grew up in had fairly limited minorities , east asians.

In social psychology this is referred to as environmental influence on behavior. :)

I don't get it, we are not talking about why Chinese uses Caucasian people to sell things? We are talking about the practice of China using questionable practices to sell things? Then this is the tip of the ice berg.

Actually, what's not said is that a lot of the features of supposed "western look" are present in Asia, just not as prevalent. My mom has double eye lids, and big eyes, essentially features made with a knife, but hers is natural.

In terms of fashion, there's quite a few differences, Harry Styles looks like a bum in Asia, facial hair isn't encouraged, and my sister in law hates guys who have muscles, boobs rather than butts, and more.

Girls generation Yoona, Ariana, and Kerri Washington, they are pretty anywhere.

I agree, the beauty of people are very unique. Meh, i say there's nothing wrong with it. Afterall we do live in a globalized society, so are we supposed to be surprised to see some folks admiring foreign beauty? No, of course not. Its just the same as how some of my american friends find the asian (east asian, south east asian) beauty to be attractive or "exotic".

What's exotic for them is normal for us. What's exotic for us is normal for them.

They say potayto, we say po tah to. LOL
