True and I hope Embraer and Bombardier are moving to bigger planes and leave the market for regional jets to ARJ.
Probably won't happen as China is over a decade late to the party, so to speak, since infrastructure for regional aircraft are now geared towards Embraer and Bombardier products rather than the old MD-90s.

Probably won't happen as China is over a decade late to the party, so to speak, since infrastructure for regional aircraft are now geared towards Embraer and Bombardier products rather than the old MD-90s.

FAA only cares about safety, not economics. As long as Chinese aircraft meet US safety standards, the aircraft will get their license.

If China mandates that Chinese airline buy only Chinese-made aircraft, this will definitely be an issue, not only with US, but other countries as well. But I doubt this will happen. It’s in the best interest of Chinese airlines to seek the best aircraft, at the best price. This means having more options on the table, not less.

If the FAA plays such a 'game' with the ARJ, or any other foreign manufacturer, the same can happen to Boeing elsewhere. Who wins then? Definitely not Boeing.

Not at all. The manufacturer will simply have to make the case that what is essentially a thirty year old design can compete with more modern products from established competitors.

Since the FAA certified the Brazilians I don't see why it wouldn't do the same for the Chinese. And it is a likely a "plus" that most of the aircraft is based on a previously FAA-certified product.

ARJ and C919 are designed primarily for China domestic market, it's estimated that China will spend roughly $670 billions to acquire more than 5500 aircrafts in the next 20 years. 1/3 of the capacity should be filled with indigenous airplanes.

The DC-9 first flew in 1965.

The planes are filled. So will the new purchased birds. VN economy is expected to grow by 9 percent next year, but the aviation market grows faster, by 30 percent. As said VietJet alone recently buys 180 aircraft. Let’s say the company wants to buy additional 100 planes, the question is why should we buy Chinese planes if they cost as much as Boeing or airbus? If you offer 50 percent discount I think we can go.

Party is still ongoing so it can never be late. Things change so there is always some new opportunity popping up from time to time.

For sure, if you can fill a plane with 200 seats, there is no point of buying one with 90 seats.
