BEIJING – China's homegrown large passenger jet has touched down safely after its first long-haul test flight, bringing the nation one step closer to competing directly with aircraft giants in Europe and America.

China hopes to develop its C919 jet to compete with popular single-aisle jets such as the Airbus A320 and Boeing 737.

State media said the plane lifted off the tarmac in Shanghai on Friday and flew west about 1,300 kilometers (800 miles) to the city of Yanliang.

The test flight comes on the heels of a state visit by U.S. President Donald Trump during which China signed on to buy 300 Boeing jetliners for $37 billion and $2.5 billion worth of General Electric jet engines, alongside energy and telecom deals worth a total of $253.4 billion.

.
India would buy these commercial airliners from China in future which would be cost competitive when compared against Boeing/Airbus. Just as India buys Chinese solar panels and Jet bridges.

It depends on the money that is being offered for the product. Chinese usually are making same product in multiple quality . Its on the buyer to buy the best of the quality.
in terms of aircrafts, there is no place for low quality and low.price strategy!

I have never seen any chinese product with best quality.

We make many thing which you make. Whole world know the difference in quality.

Please go play in your own particular league which falls somewhere near sub-Saharan Africa.

You do not know what you are talking about.

For starter, there is no such thing as 'low quality' but there is LOWER quality. Soviet/Russian airliners were and still are notorious for being of LOWER quality than their Western aircrafts. The quality we are talking about is not confined to aircraft design because the Soviets/Russians produced many of the world's finest aerodynamicists, but that of long term reliability and maintainability. The latter two items are independent of aerodynamics.

Now, if the Chinese government demands and even forces Chinese airline companies to use exclusively Chinese aircrafts, then a market exist regardless of quality.

Of air traffic controllers, US in particular and Western in general, prefers Boeing or Airbus, not because those two companies are Western but because they build excellent aircrafts. Soviet/Russian aircrafts often have a difficult time with speed, forcing Western air traffic controllers to make extraordinary efforts in managing TO/L schedules. If a Soviet/Russian aircraft develops hardware problems before takeoff, most of the flying day's schedules must be renegotiated. Inferior airspeed changes is just one of many items that everyone must deal with.

Most people do not realize that an airliner's business model is built upon the aircraft ( or aircrafts ) it has. The higher the quality of that aircraft, the better the odds of business success.

SHANGHAI, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- China's large passenger jet, the C919, took off in Shanghai Pudong International Airport at 11:38 a.m. and arrived at Xi'an Yanliang Testing Base, Shaanxi Province, around 2:00 p.m. Friday, completing its first intercity test flight.

With a crew of five onboard, the aircraft flew at a height of 7,800 meters during the journey of more than 1,300 km, according to Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC), the Shanghai-based manufacturer of the jet.

The C919 will remain at Yanliang and undergo more testing to acquire its airworthiness certificates.

The jet made its maiden flight in May and has now completed six flights in total. COMAC plans to produce six test aircraft, with the second expected to make its maiden flight at the end of this year.

The company has orders for 730 C919 from 27 clients.

With a standard range of 4,075 kilometers, the C919 jet is comparable to the updated Airbus 320 and Boeing's new generation 737.
