Varag aircraft carrier
didnt it have FL-3000 installed on it?
China's new Type 1030 CIWS (Close-In Weapon System)
A closer look at the barrels of China's Type 1030 CIWS
China's old Type 730 CIWS
Seems like they've increased the number of barrels and possibly caliber as well. It probably means that they are looking to emphasize its rate of fire and service life of the barrels.

Interesting they're unveiling a new gun type CIWS when NATO is moving towards SeaRAM or even replacing CIWS with ESSM altogether. I guess they want to evaluate both FL-3000N and the new system before deciding on the future path, hence both are installed on Varyag.
In another news, the latest RIM-116 Block 2 is said to have range of 16km. That's pretty insane for a CIWS system.
I doubt they would replace 730 so soon, since it has been in service for less than 8 years. There is a possibility they intend to use gun-type CIWS and FL-3000N in tandem. While FL-3000N can engage multiple targets over longer ranges at the same time, there is little it can do to stop targets that are already too close (<1km) since missiles do require distance to manoevure to target. I think that's where the gun fills in.The new CIWS could simply be a replacement for older CIWS models while the FL-3000N equip the newer ships.
This system also includes a FL-3000N, so it is basically the Chinese equivalent of the SeaRAM system.
