What's new

China's navy no longer so inferior to Japan's, experts say

Why do I have to keep repeating myself and this stupid logic that you are following? We IMPORT from Africa because we CAN AND HAVE THE MONEY TO DO so. It does not mean we don't have iron ore. In fact, our Iron Ore Reserves is about 23 billion metric tons, which is 4th most in the world after Australia, Brazil, and Russia with 35, 29, 25 billion metric tons respectively.

The Top 5 Countries with the Most Iron Ore Reserves

My friend, please, i sense your tone is very angry. Why must you get angry, we are just discussing a hypothetical scenario?

You understand now that importing irone ore and copper is important and imperative for China's manufacturing base. It is this importation that fuels China's capability to produce steel bars, steel-based appliances etc. In fact, the large importation from said countries is what fuels the reserve capacity.

I will state that I do not want a war between our two countries, there is much to lose, regional peace and stability.

Good night, and take care.

Anyway you want to look at it, Japan is not in the list and not Top 10 in anything. LOL

We have substantial reserves, actually. But since we are not a manufacturing-based nation, we have outsourced that to other countries such as China, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, India, Indonesia, Bangaldesh, Pakistan, the United States, Brazil, Argentina, Canada etc,-- we don't need excessive quantities. And when we do need some, we purchase rather cheap supply from China. lol.

and as for steel production, we're actually #2, lol

After China build at least total 20x 052C/052D/055 DDGs and more than one A.C Strick Fleet, then claim who's stronger. :coffee:
Right now such discussion is insignificance !

@terranMarine Why is your Chinese language ability poor? Poor only reading/writing or poor on conversation as well?

. .
yes.
Quantity has the quality of its own

China has the right to build enough quantity to keep the specific ratio : modern aircrafts ; destroyer / population / square kilometer.
For example, each million Chinese people has not enough 1 modern aircraft ; 1 helicopter ; each 100 million Chinese people has not enough 1 Aegis destroyer.
Almost everyone of 1.4 billion Chinese people must use Boeing, Airbus for their travelling aboard ( if any )

Hi,
It is a good (war) discussion.

I would like to add 2 more things in the discussion

1) Does China have her own oil in war time without sea route?
2) In war time, China vs Japan, who can secure the import/export of resource?
3) Intelligence. China vs Japan, who has better understanding of the opponent in real time and broad categories ranging from military , resource, to internal politics of the opponent?
4) Communication system security encoding. Who has the un-decodable communication protocol?
Have you forget the enigma machine, and the genius Von Numann?
Enigma machine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I think US can help Japan without directly involving in War by telling intelligence. For example, telling the GPS locations of each PLA ships, or radar sites. Also US has the best intelligence gathering system called Mobile smart phone. Each Smart phones you are using can have backdoor that tells your positions, your name, your phone numbers, and your contacts. By collecting these information, Computers can predict your location in the future using your past statistics. When you group this statistics into a web of contact numbers, you gives a good idea of relation between you and who you know. These information, with GPS and occupation, can predict where the military sites are, and what is a soldiers duty etc.

Therefore, Japan has better advantage on 3) Intelligence, but disadvantage on resources.

@somsak , you raised very good point(s) about communication. In fact, this was pivotal for the Royal Navy when engaging the Argentine Navy during the Falklands War. The United States was the one providing the British with locations of key Argentine forces; this led to the sinking of the ARA General Belgrano and other key fleet vessels.

Despite the overwhelming size of the Argentine Forces, despite the location close to Argentina, still the British were able to win the day. An example of a smaller, cohesive, and advanced force defeating a much larger force.

It's my career. Telecommuncation engineer.
I would like to emphasis the word encoding
Communication Encoding.

During WW2, the communcation between each units of military at that time use radio signals. These signals can be captured, tapped and listen. Therefore, Germany invented a box called by the Victor side "Engima" Box. What these boxes do is to "encode" or in other words "change the signal" so that when the signal is tapped, the other side could not listen. What happened was a Germany subs was captured during WW2. This event, 1 Enigma box is captured. The next is to understand clearly how they encode-decode. It was with a math genius Von Numann and it was this very process of decoding Engima box that the world 1st computer was invented using vacuum tubes. Finally Enigma box was decoded. Allied force was able to know in advance Germany military movement, which led to destruction of the later. The engima box was exported to Japan and use as decoding as well. Therefore, US military knew in advance all Japanese army movement. Therefore, they free for all the Yamoto ship and her group.

The British also had technological supriority. Argentine can't detect British subs

100% I agree with you. The concept of decryption is far more important than the size of a naval ship's guns or decoy(s) because it is this factor that can be used to predict the location of the enemy's fleet movement(s).

Prior to the Allied Force breaking the Japanese naval code, the Imperial Japanese Navy commanded the seas , destroying allied naval shipping and coastal defenses with impunity. Case scenario the Battle of Java Sea, the Battle of Bandung Straits, the Battle of Manila Harbor, the Battle of Singapore. The Imperial Japanese Navy [Nihon Kaigun] was able to even destroy much larger allied cruisers , battleships by our pin point accuracy and coordination. This was witnessed in Pearl Harbor. This was also witnessed in the early phase of Battle of Midway.

The achilles heel for us was that the United States utilized the decryptor box, and thus were reading Japanese naval command instructions. This way they were able to send the Pacific Fleet to engage us in Midway, we had not planned they would intercede us there. The same concept was used to wrec havoc on our merchant fleet, throughout the duration of the war. Now, if we ask ourselves, what if the US did not break the naval code? It can be assumed that most of the naval battles that the united states defeated us in (which used the naval code to find our locations), would never have happened. In fact, the duration of the war would have been longer, the outcome would not have been what it was.

The United States Navy triumphed over the Imperial Japanese Navy because of a multifaceted aspect:

1) United States broke our code early in the war
2) United States protected their carrier assets , and utilized it aggressively
3) United States coordinated in strike groups, making sure to utilize pincer movements , reduced attrition damage against larger Nihon Kaigun Rengo Kantai (Combined Fleet)
4) United States had UNLIMITED NATURAL RESOURCES , still does
6) United States coordinated the Naval and Air and Army effectively. Compared to Imperial Army and Imperial Navy's almost competitive nature with each other

Fleet size is never the single determining factor of the success of a naval battle. It all depends on communication, interoperability of the military departments, and strategic maneuverability of key forces. As seen in the Battle of Midway, Battle of Java Sea, Battle of Tsushima Straits, Battle of Solomon Islands.

Any conflict between China and Japan will undoubtedly bring in the US Armed Forces. The combined power of Japanese and US forces is something that China wants no part of. I can only suggest that China proceeds with caution.

Currently on the internet, we are using MD5 and other encoding. Last time I heard the news about encoding was that a chinese Ph.D was able to decode MD5. Because of its important, encoding/decoding is an active field of research. I heard that there are new method that protect the tapping, instead of decoding. It is very new method and sound very sci-fi. It is called "Quantum Communication" .
