How serious is China about the moon bases?

I think China is extremely serious about building habitable bases on the moon.

If it turns out the cost is too high (in terms of danger to Chinese astronauts/taikonauts, or in an economic sense), then it might have to be delayed for some years. But the technology will keep improving, it just becomes a question of when.

How many lives did the USA/Russia sacrifice in the space race (e.g. the Challenger disaster, the Columbia disaster)... and how much is China willing to sacrifice? Robots should be fine for the immediate future.

China's Chang'e-4 lunar probe mission has concluded the first-ever biological experiment on the Moon's far side and its rover has entered a dormant mode, according to the China National Space Administration.

A photo released by scientists at the Chongqing University on Tuesday showed that one of the cotton seeds, taken up to the Moon by the lunar exploration probe, had sprouted. However, the plant died due to extreme cold after the payload entered sleep mode.

The cotton plant will be decomposed to harmless organics with no pollution on the Moon.

Sad that they turned off the power so soon.

Or maybe they are just saying that, because they discovered something of scientific importance and want to keep it quiet for now.

I say infect the entire moon with bacteria, germs and whatever maybe able to survive there in order to spread life throughout the solar system.

No oxygen. No water. No bacteria. They have to start in an artificially controlled environment and expand from there. They have accomplished what they set out to test. Plants do grow in moon's low gravity environment.
