China's mobile network speed surpasses US

With the deployment of 4G network, China's mobile network speed achieved around 18Mbps on average in August this year, outpacing countries like the United States and the United Kingdom in the same period. That's according to a report by OpenSignal, a mobile network evaluating APP.

However, the report also points out that the condition of China's mobile network coverage, which varies greatly between urban and suburban areas, is not as good as the United States and other developed countries.

The report shows that South Korea's mobile network is the fastest in the world with an average of 41Mbps, followed by Singapore, Hungary, Australia and Denmark.

At the same time, these countries also have the highest percentage of mobile network coverage in the world.

It adds that countries like India, Iraq and Ukraine have the worst mobile network coverage and the slowest mobile network speeds. India for example has average speeds of around 5.3Mbps.

In the meantime, the number of countries where its mobile users spend more time surfing using WIFI rather than 3G or 4G has reached 46, testimony to the popular habit of searching for free WIFI.

This is just average and per person of the countries. Remember China is a very vast country. If compare just modern cities like Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou. I doubt they will loses out to best of others countries cities.

From my experiences of recent trips in some countries in Asia and Oceania, speed at Chinese big cities is easily one of the fastest. But you are right about the size of China, we need more investment on 4G coverage in Western China. Now, Everest Base Camp has 4G!!!

In my school, public wifi enables downloading a 4Mb song within seconds.

National free wifi of 5Mbps should be doable. I hope the government takes a deep look into this. Perhaps, subsiding poor income family to gain access to the internet.
