Just checked and China has over 1 trillion cubic feet of recoverable shale gas reserves.
That is enough to last over a century with no imports.

Oil reserves are nowhere near as good but 32 billion barrels is not bad and could always be used as a war reserve.

China currently has the #1 largest Shale Gas reserves on Earth.

Environment needs to be taken into account as well.

As well as the #3 largest Shale Oil reserves on Earth. However, despite having the largest reserves of Shale Gas, we are far behind America in terms of a Shale Boom, this may change in the next few years:

We got the shale technology from America not a surprise we are behind. Strategic oil reserves need to built up the Shale Oil reserves offer some relief.
