A part of the highway connecting Xingshan county to Yiba Expressway is constructed on water in order to prevent digging the mountain and destroying forests. The highway is expected to open for traffic in the first half of this year. It will shorten the travel between the areas connected to 20 minutes.

That means a lot to local villagers.
Now, it takes less time for time to drive on G42 national expressway (Shanghai-Chengdu).

First "Highway Above Water" Open For Business Now!

8月9日，昭君故里湖北省兴山县古(夫)昭(君桥)公路正式通车，为避免开山毁林，该路建在峡谷溪流中，是中国首条水上生态环保公路。公路连接兴山县城的重要通道，全长10.9公里，双车道二级公路。两岸风景宜人，又被人们称为“最美水上公路”。

The GUZHAO HIGHWAY (古昭公路) is the first Level-2 Highway (see below for explanation, there are already higher grade on water e.g. Hangzhou Bay Expressway. Qingdao Bay Expressway) built on water for protection of environment, officially open for business on 9th August 2015.

In China, highways are constructed based on Legislation JTG-B01-2003 ("Technical Standard on Highway Construction" or "公路工程技术标准"). The highest grade is control-access highways, i.e. "Expressways" (access ramps, lane dividers, etc.), others are classified into 5 levels. By 2015, quantities are as below:

• Expressways (高速公路) 111,950 km
• Level-1 Highway (一级公路) 74,300 km
• Level-2 Highway (二级公路) 331,500 km
• Level-3 Highway (三级公路) 401,900 km
• Level-4 Highway (四级公路) 2,705,800 km
• Unclassified Highway (等级外公路) 627,900 km
