For the very first time, China confirmed the existence of its fifth generation of PL-10 AAM on state TV by military experts. It was revealed yesterday that the PL-10 is much advanced than the AIM-9 series. PL-10 has the range of 60km, the speed of mach 4, the warhead of 33kilo and most advanced Go-Onto-Target (GOT) missile guidance systems.Once being locked, it is impossible for the enemy aircrafts to get away(Watch from 09:50 of the following video). No wonder, as the Chinese military expert said, the Japanese F-15 fighters had to fire the flares to flee in the June 17 confrontation in the East China Sea.

The PL-10 AAM was developed by the Luoyang Electro-Optical Research Institute (LEOC). The development of this fifth-generation PL-10 short-range air-to-air missile was completed according to comments by the missile's designer on a Chinese TV show broadcast in late August 2014.

The PL-10 was first seen on Chinese websites in 2013 being carried on a retractable/covered pylon on the J-20 fifth-generation fighter. More recently it has been seen on the wingtip pylon of the Shenyang Aircraft Corporation J-11 fighter.

. .
What about pl 15 which range is 160 km
PL-10 is the short-range air -to-air missile for dog fight, whose US peer is AIM-9X block2,3 etc.
PL-15,like AIM-120, is the Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missile(AVRAAM) or beyond-visual-range air-to-air missile(BVRAAM). There were western reports that On September 15, 2015, China successfully test fired PL-15, firing from a fighter to destroy a target drone. But till now no Chinese official has admitted that and gave the details of it.

CHINA REVEALS PL-10 AIR-TO-AIR MISSILE FOR ITS FIFTH-GENERATION FIGHTER JET

The PL-10 is claimed to include a Lock On After Launch (LOAL) capability, suggesting a high performance strapdown inertial midcourse package. Conceptually the missile appears closest to the joint South African - Brazilian Denel A-Darter

Rumors about China’s latest PL-10 short-range air-to-air missile have been circling for the last two years. Speaking during a Chinese television interview, the missile’s chief designer revealed that the missile is nearly complete, and offered new key details.

Designed by the Luoyang Electro-Optical Research Institute (LEOC), images of the fifth-generation PL-10 first surfaced in 2013. Carried onboard the J-20 fighter, the missiles have also been seen on the J-11, a copy of the Russian Su-27.
Based purely on those photos, experts were able to confirm that the PL-10 utilizes thrust vectoring. Its large fins also likely give the missile high rates of maneuverability, and it may feature a helmet-mounted display sighting system.
Speaking on a Chinese television broadcast last month, Liang Xiaogeng was able to provide more concrete details. Weighing in at nearly 200 pounds, the 10-foot PL-10 features "world-class" capabilities. After being in development for the past seven years, the missile has a range of 12 miles.
According to Liang, the missile also includes "multi-element imaging infrared seeker with anti-jamming capabilities" and off-boresight attacks.
So far, the PL-10 has already been successfully test-fired 30 times.

The PL-9 is conceptually closest to the American AIM-9P Sidewinder and appears to be an evolution of the PL-5 series missile, although Chinese sources claim the missile outperforms the AIM-9L/M. Production status of this missile remains unclear
This isn’t Liang’s first rodeo. He’s also worked on LEOC’s PL-9C, an infrared/helmet-sighted air-to-air missile, and served as chief designer for the medium-range PL-12.
Liang’s interview came only days before the September 3 military parade in Beijing highlighted the Chinese military’s latest developments. With over 500 units of military hardware and 200 aircraft, the event showed off a number of previously classified ballistic and cruise missiles.
“Much of the weaponry on display – all of it said to be in service in the People’s Liberation Army – will be new, the product of a military modernization drive aimed at ensuring that China can never again be attacked with impunity or overrun by foreign invaders,” retired US Ambassador Chas W. Freeman told Sputnik.
The advanced PL-10s, equipped onboard the maneuverable J-11s, could be a highly effective combination.

SD10A, PL10 & PL15 are part of JF package. Just like AShM. The little bird has sharp claws.
Next step has to be integeration of JL10&15 on JF along with EW pod from J16. Can be mounted on wing tips.

More interested in PL15 though... the Chinese have understated its range...great equalizer missile this!
