China’s export controls on gallium likely to hit US defense industry: experts

Raytheon need to race with cell phone manufacturers and other high tech manufacturers for the very-very limited gallium supply.

Are you being serious??

I'm quite sure they can have the US Government twist whatever screws it takes to make sure there is no disruption.

. . .
Like tell some companies we'll have them blacklisted from selling anything in Europe or the Americas if they don't cooperate. Keep in mind Europe buys Raytheon stuff too so they will be right behind us.

Not that easy. That means US must push European government to force their high tech industry not to use/import gallium/germanium; how European government will do that?

Will Europe be willing to let their high tech industry to loose their competitiveness to their competitors from Asia and even US due to inability to use gallium/germanium? Even pushing European government to ban Huawei itself was already hard, leave alone pushing them to have their own champions to loose competitiveness. LOL

Simple. It's called a national security directive.

Do you really think European countries are going to put exported consumer products ahead of their national defense?????

Yes, it's better than Russia overrunning their borders.
Don't you think so?

Well thanks to that things will be expedited our way.

Crippled Raytheon doesnt mean crippled Europeean defense. LOL

Europe still has Aerospatiale, Dassault, BAE, Thompson etc.

But crippled European high tech champions will cripple European technology and future economy.

Raytheon sells weapons to over 80 countries in the world. I think they have the ear of alot of governments.

They still have to get gallium too. This isn't specifically targeted at the US.

Why do you think they are going to ignore their own defense industries in favor of their consumer products?

If you think European and American defense companies have to wait in line behind consumer companies then you are really living in a fantasy world.

Plus Europe and the US will just impose tariffs on Chinese consumer items that contain gallium.

Because majority that Raytheon supply to Europe can be substituted by European defense industries.

They (european defense industry and other high tech industries) need gallium and germanium, they will chose their own industry rather than choosing raytheon.

Are you really being serious? Maybe because you are Indonesian you don't have a clear picture of reality.

All the defense industries in the US and Europe are intertwined. Some European defence contractors use American parts and some American defense contractors use European parts.

yes, and the consumer companies will be served last.

Logical fallacy. Indonesian or not nothing to do with having/not having clear picture of reality. LOL

Intertwining means each other has bargaining power on each other. It is not the same case like chip between China and US where China depend on US technology while US not depend on China technology for chip manufacturing.

Like I said, European defense doesnt rely on raytheon, so it is logical if Europe will place her own interest over raytheon.

I already explained to you that European defense contractors are reliant on US parts and US defense companies are reliant on European parts.

Yet you are still focusing on thinking that I mean specifically Raytheon parts are what they are reliant on..when I'm try to tell you that it is not only Raytheon but other US companies.

These companies are intertwined and they will make sure they all receive what they need before consumer companies. They are not going to throw Raytheon under the bus just so 100 US defense companies start throwing them under the bus in response.

How come you are having trouble understanding this?

China’s leading supplier of GaAs substrates is owned and operated by AXT an American firm with additional ownership of ten Chinese raw materials suppliers.

So that means US should not push European for the sake of US' interests upon European one. Because US defense also depends on Europe parts/component too. As simple as that, but you still dont get it. LOL

I think you can not comprehend the concept of defense companies being a much higher priority than consumer companies.

Whatever the supply is the defense companies will get it first and they will determine the priorities of who gets what.

Maybe Indonesia has a policy of their consumer companies just telling their defense companies and government to go F themselves because they don't want to lose money.

I think that would be a great way to get shutdown.
