China's energy giant inks deal with UK firm for 2000 MW Bangladesh power plant

BD welcomed Chinese investment in Kyukpyo as well as SEZ in myanmar. It is only the Rohingya issue got into people's psyche. Unstable Rakhine will not make any SEZ feasible anymore neither big time port project. China would be better off draining Burmese gas and use their lad to transport oil. There are lots of other places including Bangladesh where Chinese businesses can invest and get the return many fold. @Two
We accept all accusations, doubts and attacks. But we don't accept anybody's command. Including the United States.

We have a national policy of "non-interference in foreign internal affairs". Same. Nor do we like foreign interference in our internal affairs.

In short. Compared with political contradictions. We are more willing to promote cooperation and development. National development is more important than anything else.

some frustrated bengali poster dont represent our whole country,brother....beside, our relation has improved into strategic level nd as a result those rendis dont knw how to flush out their anger..:lol:

I did not say that Bangladesh attacked us. It's just some "world police" crazy obsession with China. We have been accustomed to it. of course, because their IQ level is limited. we always win debates.

You are talking to a veteran China-hating Hindu extremist Indian troll specializing in lies, as all Indian trolls are.

Bangladeshis don't hate on Chinese investing anywhere (including Myanmar) - why should we? Chinese can invest anywhere, it is nothing for us to dictate.

Indian trolls hope that no Chinese investment flows in Bangladesh and Bangladesh does not 'go into the China camp politically and industrially'. Well too late.

Chinese investors don't check with PDF Indian trolls before investing in Bangladesh. The flights to Dhaka from Kunming and Guangdong have increased from once weekly to more than once a day by multiple airlines (both Chinese and Bangladeshi) in the span of less than three years.

All these flights are packed with investors and textile machinery vendors from both sides a lot of whom I have personally spoken to while on these flights. Bangladesh is one of China's important foreign production hubs for textiles, if you don't count Vietnam. The amount of bilateral trade has amounted to more than fifty billion yearly by now.

I fly these routes several times a year and the changes are spectacular to witness.

This is a Bangladeshi project being invested on by Chinese and British interests. What business does an Indian troll have dissing on this and what value can this schmuck bring to the conversation, given he has zero knowledge of Bangladeshi infra?

Bangladeshi guys don't tag this guy. 'Ignore' him.

Shameless feckless clueless schmuck. SMH.
Welcome to China. :smitten:

I have been repeating that national development should be more important than anything else. Political contradictions are handled by the government. It cannot affect our economic cooperation.

China implements $10b worth of infrastructure projects in Bangladesh, says ambassador

@Two @dy1022 @GeraltofRivia I am a "China-hating extremist hindu troll" :rofl:

Long live China - Myanmar friendship and cooperation @Aung Zaya @Chinese-Dragon

What do Bangladeshis have to say about it?

Rohingya has woken up BD to China's true nature.
Before this most BD'shis thought it was Western propaganda as regards Uyghur. Now they know that it is actually true.
Lol, Nilgiri has had many balanced (positive leaning actually) discussion on China related topics and offered many thoughtful insights into China’s economic issues. He backs his discussions up with data and research. If some members make negative comments about China without any evidence or solid data, he would challenge them for it.

China's energy giant PowerChina has signed an agreement and a contract with GCM Resources, a leading British resource exploration company, for development of a coal-fired power plant in Bangladesh.

Both the Joint Venture (JV) deal and the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract were signed at a ceremony in Dhaka on Thursday. The plant would be developed in Bangladesh's Dinajpur district, some 338 km northwest of the capital, Xinhua news agency reported.

The proposed project is part of a broader strategy by GCM to generate 6,000 MW of low cost electricity for the Bangladesh market utilizing domestic coal, the report said.

The power plant, with two units of a capacity of 1,000 MW each, will be built with ultra supercritical technology, which provides lower levels of emissions and delivers the lowest cost of power.

The project would deliver a sustainable power solution for the development and progress of Bangladesh and would have a substantial multiplier effect on the country's economic and social advancement, according to a statement by the companies.

Ding Zhengguo, Chairman of PowerChina International, said they were delighted to be a partner with GCM to deliver an integrated mine and power plant for the people of Bangladesh.

"Completing the JV agreement and EPC contract are very important steps in progressing the combined project. As the power plant contractor, we are committed to a positive relationship with the community and to constructing an environmentally friendly power plant for the benefit of the local people," he said.

Michael Tang PJN, Executive Chairman of GCM, said: "The JV agreement and EPC contract are key milestones for the development of the 2nd proposed 2,000 MW power plant project at the mine site and aligns with GCM's strategy to present a holistic power solution to the government of Bangladesh which can generate 6,000 MW at the lowest cost for the country."

"The Phulbari Coal and Power Project will deliver a significant multiplier effect on the nation's advancement," he added.

PowerChina is an investor and contractor for three large projects in Bangladesh -- two coal-fired power plants with a combined capacity of 1,670 MW and a JV for the Dhaka Elevated Expressway.
Congratulations for Bangladesh, PowerChina and GCM for the project.

1000MW per unit is a massive size for coal thermal unit (250MW used to be pretty standard size in the past), which provides great efficiency and low emission compared to smaller units.
