China's dangerous railways: 1,232 people killed in 2014 (down 7.8%)

35 + 25 (from 2008) = 60. You made it. But you have to admit that is still well under China.

I thought you are better than this. Trying to prove there are less train fatalities in the US than in China, is like a Chinese proving to you there are less gun fatalities in China than in the US, then claiming a victory on the argument. Are you sure you are not in a losing proposition?

In fact, based on man-km statistics per year, US train travelers are more than 10 times likely to be killed in accident than their Chinese counterparts.

Well said, bro! You took those words out of my mouth. I was too lazy to type. :D

Yes, it was an unusual low post by me only in response to the gloating in the other thread posted.

The chance of being a passenger on a train and being killed in the US or China is very very slim. The other thread was comparing US fatalities to Chinese fatalities. The problem shown is just a single big accident in China or the US can skew the averages dramatically as it is unusual for more than say 2 people to be killed in an incident. Also you have to take into account if the people killed were actually on the train. I had to weed out the numbers just to get to the 35 on the other page. Hitting a bus full of people is going to skew things with the reported numbers.

My challenge of 10 years with 50 people shows it isn't easy to get to when non train riders are factored out. One thing I hadn't counted on was the number of freight train operators killed being used. If I had limited things to passenger trains the number may or may not have been reached. Definitely the 2008 crash that killed 25 people factored big.
