China's censors are cracking down

God forbid people actually get to hear truth. It's not about 'curbing propaganda', it's about china pushing their propaganda. Who's 'obsessing' about Assange ? You're the one who brought him up. Anything you want to tell us ? And I LOVE these people from places like Pakistan who tells you how shitty places like the U.K. and U.S.A. yet they move half way around the world to live in the Great Satans. Like we need more taxi drivers and gas pumpers.:usflag:

Of course we want to set our propaganda in our country, why we want foreigner to steal the show from us?, we have information sovereign over our country . And believe me when our information and propaganda warfare is strong enough penetrate and invade US, you government will naturally censor your own people to prevent commie influence

I just wish China's information warfare capability to grow sharper.

This is an area the US definitely leads the pack. Their sophisticated regime-led idea and discourse making capabilities must be studied more closely.

For one, I do not think China's internet environment is not supervised well enough. Many comments that would quickly be deleted by US regime-friendly media can easily be shared and remain hot in China.

For once, compare US regime-friendly news-sites' comments section and those of China.

US regime-friendly web-sites are more heavily moderated.

We need a media just like the NYT. When it is to the interest of the state, the media must be able to sell a major war, just like the NYT did during the second Iraq invasion.

Besides, China media must learn how to insert opinion into facts; as it stands now, China's news making is too much truth-oriented.

The fact is that, truth has multiple dimensions, and one dimension is always more suitable for national interests than the rest. The point is to be able to locate and expose that dimension.

Overall, it is a welcome news. But not enough.

Beside weapon and killing machine, the 2nd most dangerous weapon is the propaganda warfare, China is full aware that, a firewall and censor wall is China's information defense shields. China still don't allow our media to go offensive and breach Western information world , I think the government doesn't want to be seen as provocative.

But on the diplomatic scene, before Chinese diplomats were polite and kind facing western critic over China human right but now Wang Yi and Chinese spoke person had no hesitation to slap American' or other western face back, we will not longer tolerate other trying to assert their right over us and think their own the true, we will win the propaganda war during peace time or at least not let other to step over our head.

Yes, to my delight, I observe that China is getting incrementally tougher on the information warfare and discourse-making, which, of course, includes diplomatic rhetoric.

Overuse of stern language will reduce the effectiveness, hence, I understand why China's policy-makers resort to it only selectively.

On the media front, there has been certain development, but not enough. Perhaps the reason is the same as in military and economic development; not to scare the others off way too early.

After all, this kind of publications (as in the OP) is for Western consumption, so, has no practical impact on China. It is entirely for selfish class interests like done by the US politicians. It is not that they care about their country, but, they care about their interests; hence, if something sells well with the public, they will use and overuse it.

We understand the situation and approach them in sympathy.

Tighten the censors China! Don't let dumb american ideas get a hold of your citizens.

Just like the warped idea that allowing more guns in the street will make their place safer.

It's no use being free when you are dead!

Good move.

Many websites spread fake news.

Some guys make money by creating fake news which have very lurid titles.

On the other hand. The websites do not even check it is real or not before posting.
.
This is one way to improve the quality and accuracy of the news published on the internet.

China should not allow garbage to be published in the name of the so-called "freedom of speech".

Especially those published by organisations. They need to show social responsibility.

Don't you guys what to catch up China to develop rapidly, nothing prevent you to copy us
Yes, India wants to develop and wants to become the most developed country

Now we have to choose between a repressive but rapid Dragon style of flight OR a free leisurely but slow and steady Elephant kind of a walk.

But our religion is preventing us to copy you. It teaches us to always struggle to be free

.
according to ignorant Western and their propaganda, we have 'no freedom' of expression to begin with, and how its tightening?

for the fact I know propaganda produces ignorance and delusion, for example, American and North Korea

there is no 'repressive but rapid Dragon style VS slow and steady Elephant style' to begin with```` as far as my experience concerned in India, 90% of Indian have no idea of what is the basic human rights at first place. mistreatment of servants, children, women, low castes, drivers, and etc, these are foul and unheard of in 'repressed' China, but very common in primitive feudal alike India

Youtube and twitter? A chinese say that? peh..

http://www.businessinsider.com/websites-blocked-in-china-2015-7

In 2010, China shut down 1.3 million Web sites, allowing access to 41 percent fewer than the previous year. Including Facebook, Youtube, Google, Instagram, Twitter.

At least we don't censor whole internet :D Next time when you try to example my country turn and look at the mirror. Social media websites are accessible right now after they accept to remove videos we demand and the twitter accounts are closed.

You did a Google search and found Business Insider, right? Not an entirely revolutionary way of posting a reply but, I guess you had no better option.

In Greater China, we have options.

Those companies are banned in China for a noble cause (Money).

We needed our own domestic champions that met the needs of the people to communicate and socialize. Hence, China has a domestic billion-dollar internet media industry today. Otherwise, it is damn difficult to compete with established Western brands.

Now even when China allows search engines like Bing (on the condition that they place their servers inside China and allow the government access when needed), they are unable to compete. Bing is allowed and lots of anti-China stuff, but they do not have a presence in the Mainland.

I would offer the same treatment to all developing countries, but it is their own choice to stick with Google or create their own Baidu.

For me, as long as I am able to produce SSCI papers using Baidu, I am fine. And I published an SSCI paper when I was in the Mainland using Baidu only.

US is known to feed its propaganda to the entire world and even the world at large, at-least sensible people are aware of this fact.
Did you know that you just insulted the entire Chinese people ?

You praised that 'sensible' people recognize US propaganda, but if you approve of censorship in China, you are tacitly saying that the Chinese people are not sensible, too feeble minded, and needs constant monitoring.

Yea you have a noble cause but Turkey banned them in past because we are against free media ot just having fun? :D Still my country centuries ahead China when it comes to freedom of speech. Now you can start googling let's see what sources you will show up :)

You sound like a person who is always pointing fingers at others while ignoring his own shortcomings.

FYI Indian constitution is one of the finest in the world and is being constantly amended to keep pace with changing world. It provides for all the fundamental rights to every citizen which are unheard of in your country.

So Kindly don't get confused as any citizen who has been victimized has a legal remedy under our rules to get justice.

Furthermore no elected ruler can make any laws which can even slightly alter our constitutional rights.
