2011-06-30 (China Military News cited from China-defense-mashup) -- According to some westerm resources, the Chengdu Xianglong UAV has completed its high-speed taxing test in October 2008. However recently a new exposed drone tells us that China is expanding its UAV family rapidly. In the Chinese Internet picture, this new unmanned aircraft has a diamond-shape wing structure. In 2006 Zhuhai Aie Show, China once displayed one similar model, which also called as "Xianglong". This situation also perhaps means that there is a drastic competition on the Project of high-altitude, long-duration UAV for China's strategic reconnaissance.

The Xiang Long did not make its first flight in 2009. That was the WZ-2000, which is a completely different UAV also in testing.

which chines one is near to global hawk ?

Xiang Long.

Wiht a box wing layout, 7000km range.

it is not on par with global hawk, but enough for China and its allies.

we don't fly these stuff in America. we use them to defend ourselves.

.
Xiang long is a regional hawk, because regional coverage for beidou navigation will be achieved by 2012. They're probably not in a hurry for global hawk because the use is just not there currently.

Bet you'll see the chinese global hawk by the time beidou achieves global coverage.

.
China should make a UAV 2times bigger than the Xiang Long, with a global range exceeding 15,000kilometres. In order to make US aircraft carriers easy to track, such a UAV would be extremely useful. Also, it should use jet engine so that it can fly minimum at Mach 1.5.

what can we do with such global hawk? watching indians fishing in indian ocean or nz dude playing ps3 in bedroom?

7000km is a not a random number come out of nowhere, it is a distance to keep the US troops in west pacific checked. I am 100% happy about that.

In fact, we should avoid the same mistake made by the Soviet Union. That is we are not going to have a arm race with the US. Limited tax money can be better spent on education, science and renewable energy research.

Which is exactly what China is doing, as even the highest international estimates of Chinese military spending is around 2% of GDP.

The Soviet Union was spending between 12-14% of GDP and that is why they went bankrupt.

right. there is a fine line between developing a suitable defence force/industry and developing a Soviet Union style suicide machine.

Clearly we don't want to the second one.

Actually need 25000km. Because the UAV has to fly back to China.

The china of 2020 would be very different from the china of today, just like today's china is very different from around 2001.

The Combat Eagle UCAV would be what you are looking for. First flight 2012.
