China’s Alibaba opens ‘hotel of the future’ with automated check-in, biometrics and voice-control

.
Is this supposed to be a world affair thing? Is it even noval?

These things have been a passing fad in Japan for quite sometime.

. . . .

Enjoy, may be. This is more than 4-5 years old hotel. There had been even older ones.
A lot of fanfare and I don't it's a standard hotel, and it doesn't say if the check in and check out are fully AI like the Alibaba one, and the facilities look very different, Alibaba one is very nice and clean with one people or robots following you, you are just by yourself, in AI technology , China and US are leading the pack, as for Japan, the country is not even cashless by now.

None of the AI hotel will be a standard hotel anytime soon. You do know why people visit hotels to stay? Its called hospitality. AI or robot hotel will be a gimmick only and it has nothing to do with anything technology related.

Remaining all things are nit picking.

China makes everything happen sooner than you expectedl. 10 years ago China is nowhere can be seen in this industry and now we are beoming dominating.
It has nothing to do with "China". AI in hospitality is not going to ever workout. Because its not a technological problem to begin with. Plus staff is not the biggest expense in hotels. Especially in China.

It is one of the biggest expenses, Chinese wages increase very fast, over 10% every year, soon it'll be very unaffordable, that's why China now is the world biggest AI technology investor.

it's not even the same thing, AI and voice recognition have only matured over the past 3 years and China is fully utilizing these technology in this hotel. The fact you are saying this video is 4-5 years old means this is nothing but a demo with no practicality, no wonder Japan hasn't brought it up since then, no one was using it due to impracticality and no one was renting this room, it was a total failure.

Actually, a lot of such hotels have existed for quite sometime in Japan. These are more of a tourist attraction than real hotels. China is merely a neophyte in this arena. Oh, BTW, voice recognition existed since 1990s.

There are already hotel chains with voice recognition in rooms. Here is one chain in the US:

We also have robots delivering food (not the old small ones that can only hold a bottle of soda) and luggage to your room. They also open doors.

Roughly what I have seen is Chinese are a copy of Japan when it comes to novelties. These things have limited impact in hotel operations. Quite sometime back there was a gimmicky sound system from Sony which used hand gestures to control volume etc. People still preferred a remote.
