Look let's stop this here because this is just not true. Washington post hasn't done their fact checking and one of the two author was an Indian. This is a internally perpetuated fact. India was never ever offered a seat on the security council.

exactly, india didn't "donate" jack, china was a founding member of the UN at a time when india wasn't even a nation, what india did was support the seating of PRC rather than ROC sometime after the civil war, not being ungrateful but PRC would have gotten that seat no matter who India supports.

US still has the power to get things done if they want. China tried stopping nuclear deal as well, what happened? It is more important if we have backing from US. It will take time but US can make it happen. Pakistan has to make a statement of this shows their confidence.

while no doubt that the US is still the world sole superpower it doesn't have half the political clout it did even 15 years ago.

the vast majority of the US public and policy makers think the UN is irrellavant and a burden nowadays. WHY? because they can't maipulate the UN like the good ol' days...half of the time the US spend defending israel and the other time they complain about paying the UN fees.

japan, muslims, south america are all going to said "what about us"
the Americans are not going to alienate the world, 2 of its most importand allies( germany, japan), the biggest economy in south america, and africans for Indians.

the US have not said once word on how they are going to get India this seat. Even if China is supportive of India's bid, India is not the only country in the world who is looking for more clout. politics in the UN is chaotic on a good day.

China is strongly opposed india joining the unsc and will use its political and economics power to influence the rest of the unsc members, and is it not hard to get their support as non of the unsc members is keen to let india join the exclusive club.
