What's new

China wins 1st women's Volleyball World Cup in 12 years

. . . .
Volleyball is not as important as cricket in the world.
No Americans and Japanese play volleyball, but they all love cricket.
Why do Chinese always waste so much time in those boring games like volleyball and swimming?

.
it was said that the crowd left before victory presentation....was that true?

.
Who here remembers the gold medal match between China and Russia in 2004?

The best match ever I still recall it over a decade later.
Me.
I got up at midnight to watch it.
I was nearly going to sleep when suddenly our girls reversed the fourth game!
That's the spirit of Chinese volleyball which dates back to 1980s!
That was the most important gold medal we won in Athens.

it was said that the crowd left before victory presentation....was that true?
True. I watched the whole match+ awarding ceremony, Japanese audience were so ill-mannered during the final. What would other players think? It was not just Chinese players, but Serbian, American and a lot of players from other countries who won individual awards.

Still watch it very often today.

I can still picture Russian coach's hilarious temper tantrums。:D
Me too.
He had big temper even when Russian girls scored.

Cricket is not even an olympic discipline.

It's a golory time for team China and the coach - Lang Ping. Congratulations!
Ms Lang Ping also proved women coach could do the same as men.
She was the best player in 1980s, now the best coach.

"Cricket is not even an olympic discipline." that is correct

And India is a "one-sport" nation - big freaking deal
If cricket is allowed to be played in the Olympics, I am certain India will lose this "one-sport glory" in no time to other strong sports nations like Russia, USA, Germany, France, Itay ... and of course China

india yaps when no other people would take the competitions seriously, like "spelling-bees"

These Japanese are so ill mannered, the stadium looks almost empty.

Emotions running high, maybe. Can't stand to watch obviously.

Another sign of the Japnese decline - this time in sportsmanship?

They have been treating their women's volleyball as one of the country's most favourite sports - haha what crickets? for the Japanese?

Having said that they are still a good team

This time around not even ONE Japanese player was elected as a winner for an individual award
The fans must be hugely disappointed
