What's new

China will launch a new warship 056 today

Really very hopeful to see these ones on our F-22Ps the current ones and the ones that we are procuring.

By the way this doesn't looks like a 1500 ton corvette but it rather looks like a 2100 ton that suits PN requirements. Although it was everyone wish that PN had produced two F-22Ps in Pakistan than only1 and go for another 7 of the next Generation.

we are not the professionals here , F22p is already an excellent platform with descent SAM's and FYI f22p when combat ready has displacement of 3144 tons , and 2760 ton for normal patrol or so.

. . .
^^ i like the looks of indian ships more. or maybe its just me

also it will reportedly replace the Type 053 (ones F-22p was derived from)

Type 052C replace Type 051
Type 054A replace Type 053
Type 056 replace Type 037
Type 022 replace Type 021

.

Type 054A is better than F22P,but F22P is the best ship be built by yourself .
after build some F22P and PNS Azmat then you should be good at it ,you can try to Type 054A.
by the way, FL-3000N is a good weapon

.
type 056 will replace type 037II missle boat of hongkong.
its means you can get 6 type 037II by Best Price

.
Nope, it is designed for replacing the type 037 boat:no:
That remains to be seen.

That's probably cause, we never see any pic of a chinese warship, except it's side profile............
Most of the modern stealth warships, look the same to me.........

You are right.........Except the USN, all the navies have confused designations for warships........:disagree:
Take for example, the Shivalik class frigate and the Rajput class destroyer......
Rajput has a displacement of 5000 tons...
Sivalik has a dislacement of 6200 tons, the same as Delhi class......
Still the Shivalik class is designated a frigate:blink:
Of course, Shivalik is a full generation or more away from Rajput.... so that's not comparing to contemporaries. A current light frigate is equivalent in size to WW2 destroyer. The difference in role is apparent starting WW2: frigate > slower, longer range, mainly ASW convoy escort versus destroyer > faster, shorter ranged, ASuw and ASW fleet protection role. This for the same tonnage, roughly.
Also, designation is not determined by tonnage/size but by function and capability. Compare Spruance, Kidd and Ticonderoga classes (same basic ship but designated DD, DDG and CG respectively)

so basically during WW2, detroyers<frigates
today frigs<destroyers.

how did that happen?

So is it a multi mission frigate or not like fitted with torpedo tubes, AShMs, SAMs????

so basically during WW2, detroyers<frigates

how did that happen?

In WW2 with RN, frigates (e.g. 1390 ton River, 1435 ton Loch, and 1635 ton Bay classes) were the logical development UP from corvettes (e.g. 1060 ton Castle class) and sloops (e.g. 1250 ton Black Swan class). The initial corvette (940 ton Flower class, 1030 ton improved Flower class), derived from a whale catching boat (Southern Pride). The USN 1285 ton Tacoma class patrol frigate was based on the RN River class frigate and also adopted in the RN as Colony class frigate. In the US meanwhile, there was developed the destroyer escort for the RN as part of Lend Lease. Full size destroyers must be able to keep up with and exceed the speed of fast capital ships, typically needing better than 25-35 knot speeds (dependent upon the era and navy) and carrying torpedoes and a smaller caliber of cannon to use against enemy ships, as well as anti-submarine detection equipment and weapons. Tonnage here is standard displacement.

A destroyer escort only needed to be able to maneuver relative to a slow convoy (which in WW II would travel at 10 to 12 knots), defend against aircraft, detect, pursue and attack submarines. These lower requirements greatly reduce the size, cost, and crew required for the destroyer escort. While fleet destroyers were more effective for anti-submarine warfare, the destroyer escort outweighed this by being able to be built faster and cheaper. Destroyer escorts were also considerably more seaworthy than corvettes. Examples are the 1360 ton fld Evarts, 1740 ton fld Buckley, 1250 ton std and 1620 ton fld Cannon, 1250 ton std and 1590 ton fld Edsall, 1740 ton fld Ruderow and 1350 ton std and 1740 ton fld Butler classes. STD is standard and FLD full load displacement.

Pre-war/ interwar period destroyers
V & W classes RN General characteristics (Admiralty V class) Displacement: 1100/1,272 std 1,339 fld
Porter class USN 1,850 tons full
Gridley class USN 1590 tons, 2219 tons full

Wartime destroyers included
Hunt class (in 4 versions for RN) about 1050 ton STD, 1450 ton fld - these were the smaller of the wartime classes British World War II destroyers - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Fletcher class (USN) 2050 ton STD, 2200 FLD
List of destroyer classes of the United States Navy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Todays frigates (at 6000ton + bigger than the previous generation of 4000 ton) remain smaller than todays destroyers (9000-11000 tons)

Frigates
today LCF, F100, F123/4/5, 22350
previous S-class, M-class, F122, Perry FFG7, Krivak

Destroyers
Today: Burke and derivatives (e.g. Japan, South Korea)
Previous : Spruance, Kidd, Udaloy, Sovremenny.

Outdated design, Chinese do not have the ability to catch up with the most avant-garde design and construction. The low performance of the Chinese ship.

Hey stop writing shits and nonsense as these are reserved to the Bollywooddaydreamers only. China is the number one shipbuilding in the world, it is catching Korea in terms of technology, design. Hats off to China which despite the stringent technological and weapons embargoes imposed by the US War dogs and Japanese Imperial War Criminals has been able to construct warships.

Very large numbers? That remains to be seen. Fewer in number surely than the number of Type 037 to replace, the newest of which may be retained. Type 056A? Not seen any discussion of that yet. Fanboy wishes, modelled on ships built for Thailand?

Very Very large numbers. Maybe more than 80

Really very hopeful to see these ones on our F-22Ps the current ones and the ones that we are procuring.

056 has a standard displacement of 1300 ton, though it looks larger.
It's a low cost corvette to be built in very large number

yes, knew about FLN3000 but i am more interested in specs.
i mean if it is something better, we may see it on PN future F-22p frigates but will like to learn a bit more about these. they seem more of anti missile role.
have looked for it on web and here are the details i found:

Complete Article at:
?Chinese Navy to be FL3000 more loaded short-range air defen-China Army-THE HOT NEWS OF CHINA

i think this is a good system and will be better if we studey it further and see if PN can get in on board the new F-22p frigates.

i will post details of the system in next posts.

regards!

That's a very good idea.

Uhm, with all due respect for China's perfomance in ship building in general, naval design esp warship design is a different ball game than design and construction of merchant vessels. Plus, building volume and ability to design and build complex vessels aren't necessarily related. It is also not a given that being no. 1 shipbuilder makes automatically makes you no. 1 designer of warship (+ naval weaponry). Current designs, while a vast apparent improvement over previous surface combattants remain untried. For example, while 054A has great lines and appears modern in many respect, we know little about its ability to survive battle damage. Other navies exist that have significantly greater experiance in this area, and incorporate this not just in manning an training but also in ships design.

What is the evidence for this? What arguments?

Again, imho, it remains to be seen if 056 will be buillt in the numbers you are suggesting.
It would in effect be 'old school' PLAN. I expect the new PLAN to have smaller numbers but larger and better quality ships. 80+ Type 056 do not fit in that pattern...
