China will eventually have 12+ aircraft carriers as a world power

Twelve? Unless they want to increase their Navy budget and manpower threefold, that is unfeasible.

Five carriers including the Varyag is far more than enough for China to defend her territory, defend her shipping lanes, as well as to project power.

Building twelve carriers, especially if they are only from a single or a couple of classes, will take a long time, and when that's finished, they would already be obsolete as compared to US Navy aircraft carriers.

China could probaly build these in the space if 15 years if she really wanted to. It is all a matter of wish more than anything. A country that can pump out two 052C+ destroyers a year can quite easily build 4 aircraft carriers over 5 years if the military necessity is present.

I am not quite sure why you think the carriers will become obsolette. Most of the military power of an aircraft carrier battle group comes from the escorts, aircraft, and the radar and electronic systems that the aircraft carrier has onboard rather than the carrier design itself. After all, there is little difference in capability between a Nimitz and Ford class carrier battle group.

Twelve carriers in 15 years is pretty much feasible only in a wartime economy. The US Navy built one carrier per month during World War II. However, you will have to restructure your entire economy.

Destroyers are one thing. Carriers are another. Especially if you don't have any experience in building carriers.

If it takes a decade for China to build 2-3 carriers, by the time twelve carriers are built, there would be newer classes from other countries. Unless you start a new class every 2 carriers (which is going to take a long time and will cost a lot), there's no point in building so much ships of one class. China learned its lesson from building all those Type 051 destroyers and Type 053 frigates.

if such thing were real, it imply Chinese government level of policy making is same as Indian, it will be a tragedy to all 1.4 billion Chinese people.
fortunately, funds dont go this way in reality.

The size of United States navy is putting a heavy strain on its national budget, with 11 carrier groups and 10 amphibious task force. I think 6 to 7 operational carrier groups + 1 training group for China would be a healthy number. It would be good enough to project power in Western Pacific and potent enough to counter American assets in the theatre.

12+ carriers, we shall be bankrupt.

5 carriers will be enough in quantity,

All depends on how large the Chinese economy grows more than anything.

The US has around 11 carrier battlegroups and it could quite easily sustain these with around 3% of the GDP spent on the military. America is running into problems due to the endless wars and bad economic policies during the Bush administration rather than the amount of aircraft carriers it has.

If the Chinese economy grows relatively quickly(7-8%a year) till 2030, then 12 aircraft carriers for China will be the equivalent of 5-6 for the US.

12 CBG's sure..............but not before 2050.

You know not everyone builds ships or anything else at Indias pace.

China build 15.9 million tons worth of ships in 2010. A few hundred thousand more won't be a problem.

I am not talking about just 12 aircraft carriers. I am talking 12 CBG's.

I hope you know that aircraft carriers do not roam in the oceans alone, right ?

So add a few hundred thousand more tons. Its really just a drop in a ocean in China's ship building industry.

The aircraft carrier, PLUS support warships (destroyers/frigates) and the submarines PLUS the fighter jets that will be present on board the A/C's.

The weapons systems/communications systems, a unified tracking mechanism, a dedicated satellite support system.

And ABOVE ALL, a mission. You dont build such expensive military toys without a mission.

You think you can do all this at the wink of a eye.

I would suggest, first declare Varyag operational, let your navy spend 10 years on it and gain some experience on operating A/C's and then think of anything else.

So basically it comes down to money. China certainly has the capacity to produce all of the things you have mentioned right now. Not in a blink of an eye but a aircraft carrier can be produced in around 5 years and their are many yards in China capable, and the other ships, submarines, and fighter much faster.

We don't need to train for 10 years. Five is plenty.

china can build all those pretty quickly. china is now the largest shipbuilder in the world.

one thing the chinese are really good at is speed at building things.

by the time china's satellite navigation system (beidou 2) becomes fully complete by 2020, i would expect china to have atleast 6 CBG.

china's military is catching upto the US very quickly.

never count the chinese out at anything, china is an exceptional country.

3 ACs is enough imo. there is really no need to be a world police like US.
