PN must realize that CPEC has given it a golden opportunity for expansion and modernization, the navy is not a neglected arm anymore. Further towards future, Pakistan should also give a tender for a small aircraft carrier, which can at least load 10 air crafts on it. This should help in patrolling the Arabian sea by launching aircraft or UAV from the carrier.

It is in China's own interest to strengthen Pakistan Navy. The more China invests in Pakistani Military, the more it will put pressure on USA, India and Afghanistan to re-consider options against Pakistan.

Thirdly, Pakistan shouldn't allow China to build a military base inside Pakistan, although Pakistan should expect necessary equipment, weapons and supplies in case of war or an imminent attack against CPEC. China has the ability to strengthen its ally Pakistan through lease of required weapons instead of putting its own troops on Pakistan soil. China has gained alot of rights for construction, establishing zones, mining and trade under the contract of CPEC, if PLA Forces are deployed in Pakistan, it would lead to colonization and endanger sovereignty of Pakistan. This could lead to deterioration of relationship between Pakistan and China.

If China builds a military base inside Pakistan, even Naval or Air, India can look towards USA for more assistance or USN will itself start to increase activity in the Arabian sea to keep the PLAN in check and monitor activity. The balance of the region will get disturbed in both cases.

In first case, India will increase Naval and Air strength on its western waters. USA will start offering warships and submarines to India, NATO may show leverage also and Germany,France etc may offer soft loan, or lease deals to India. Russia will step in for the tender also and Indian Navy may get the most lucrative deals for aircraft carrier, destroyers, frigates, subs etc

In second case, If USN starts to show a buildup of Navy in the gulf region by doubling or tripling Naval forces in the gulf of Oman or Persian Gulf, in UAE or Bahrain or Kuwait, then Iran will aggressively pursue to damage Gawadar. The cold war between the ports of Chabahar and Gawadar will magnify. This will increase the Indian involvement in Iran and Chabahar port. Iran will make a confrontational stance against Pakistan not to let PLAN build a base inside Pakistan to deter excessive USN presence in the region. The Shia-Sunni clashes will erupt inside Pakistan once again and Pakistan will need to shift military focus on Iran border just like it has done on Afghanistan border.
