China watches nervously as Taiwan election nears

Boy , I have touched nerve:). Why are you going Offtopic- the conversation was about the article and then you, yes YOU- turned into an anti american tirade when I simply asked was the current head of taiwan not the same adminstration that asked for the biggest weapon package from america.

I'm an atheist, so unfortunately for you- bringing religion into the equation just proves my point about you. Now if you want to know why I have a set opinion about you?- then simply ask. You rail against the western world at every opportunity you get, while living in country that is, for all purposes, a twin of the american vaules. Then you wonder why I have a low opinion of your ilk. the ultra nationalist label fits you, yeah- since you openly profess to the all out brainwashing and at all costs allegiance to the great Zhong Hua. Can we get back to the topic- and my question that is yet unanswered :)
The man is a hypocrite. Too cowardly to live what he espouses for others. But I think the best motivation for living in the 52nd American state is because there is a shortage of girls in China.

Those Republicans can also be replaced.

Seriously? LOL, the entire concept of being right-wing in economics means that you value free trade and hate protectionism.

Unless maybe you want the Republicans to be economic left-wingers? Socialists, like your President? :P

The bottom line, is that Republicans in power in the USA, is better for China. Less restrictions on trade, more profits for us. Though Obama is also increasing the trade deficit (and debt) vis a vis China to enormous levels as well...

Certain beliefs can be suspended when the country is being under attacked or is proven to be unfairly treated by others, allies or adversaries. Free trade does not equal to submitting oneself to an unfair relationship.

Another lie JayATL? Like that one about the American veto in the other thread?

Please find a quote where Carsharp "rails against the Western world".

China's economic rise was fueled by the West, and America in particular. They wanted us as a counterweight to the Soviet Union. Even today, America is our number #1 customer, and provides enormous amounts of investment and technology through their multinationals.

.
I'm sure they have recognized the signs, but the US government refuses to make it official, thereby letting China get away with it. At the expense of American jobs.

Well then at least you have slightly more "American values" than JayATL, who pinpoints specific racial groups in America as being more seditious, regardless of the fact that they too are American citizens.

One has to take a look at every chinese american in these boards and how they rail against the US. If walks like duck and quacks like a duck , then its a duck- yeah?. and I call it as such...why is okay to abuse this country at every opportunity and then when pointed out as such- its becomes" oh noozzz he said they are seditious". I have yet to see . read , a single chinese on these boards to ever take the US ( supposedly country of citizenry) side.

.
Sometime I don't understand China they say that Taiwan is their part and they will not capture it because it is already their part but how on earth if their part than that part has its own Airforce Navy and Army to fight china ? Can somebody explain it to me Plz

Same here.

Maybe you can convince the Republicans and the Democrats, since they seem to be in agreement on this one.

The history is complex and has been discussed elsewhere here. Am sorry if search for those discussions will be difficult but for a very short rehash:

Taiwan as we currently know today came from the end of WW II where Chinese Nationalists lost to the communists and fled to the island. The US came to Taiwan's support out of the policy of communist containment. The result is an armed Taiwan that while can be militarily conquered the cost for China will be high, even if the Taiwanese is the only one fighting.

STOP GOING OFF TOPIC PLZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Topic at hand--- and my question is : If China prefers the current adminstration and it is evident that atleast the chinese here do by the comments of the posters here- How is china / chinese so confident about Mr. wang-ying - when his adminstration defied china and bought the biggest weapons package from the US and still hounds the US for new military aircrafts?

Why did America choose to recognize the PRC, and drop official recognition of Taiwan?

Taiwan is full of mainland sympathizers.

So like you said, I really do hope that America provides F-35's to Taiwan. :D I am 100% in favour of that move.

P.S. You keep calling him "wang ying" when you clearly know that's not his name, not even close. While making fun of him, you forgot that he is from Taiwan.

Political expediency. Plus the fact that the majority of the UN over time withdrew their support for Taiwan out of that same political expediency. And please do not criticize US for that as if China is oh-so-righteous when it comes to political expediencies.

Do you feel that you betrayed democratic Taiwan in order to recognize the PRC instead?

How do you betray someone, to me betray does not equate to sending your military ships to its aid- making it clear that any attack on taiwan will mean US will intervene.

Btw- Ma-ying. not wang ying- dont know why that name( wang ying) was stuck in my head. I seemingly have been messing it up from the get go. No disrespect intended to taiwanese...

I would not characterize it as a 'betrayal' because the word impute the action of abandonment in the ultimate degree. That did not happened. The change of recognition as to who represent China in the UN and by extension on the world stage was inevitable. Major components of sovereignty are physical possession and monopoly of authority over said physical possession. Taiwan failed in both when it comes to mainland China. The US continued to support Taiwan politically and militarily since that change so it would be extreme to call it a 'betrayal'.
