China has territorial disputes with many of the countries around it, and has used its military to 'enhance' its claims on those territories, or expressed the willingness to do so.
The US has no territorial disputes.
China has settled nearly all of its continental border disputes with the exception of India, who does not want a peaceful resolution because they are anxious to spoil China's rise.
As for rescuing a peaceful Chinese fisherman who was captured and jailed by the Japanese is a good example of the use of diplomacy, rather than the use of crippling sanctions or military invasions, as the US has applied to countries like Iran and Iraq with which it has disagreements with. Again, China's policy is peaceful development.
It is the United States which is butting into the China's coastal territories, running propaganda using its Voice of America, and inflaming territorial conflict instead of helping to resolve them. China has offered to put off the territorial disputes and jointly explore the use of resources. Instead, the US is using the disputes as diplomatic leverage to thwart China's rise. The US should stop clinging to its East Asian empire and gracefully accommodate the rise of other countries. American cannot forever be the policeman of the world, nor should it be, considering the mess it has left in Iraq and Afghanistan.
