China-UK (Britain) Geopolitics and Economics: News & Discussions

Mental prison is the darkest of them all.

What does it mean Asian Century? Repeat of past 500 years of colonial rules? Only this time by Asians on Asians?

China is the oldest existing state in history. From Yellow Emperor to CPC.

Look Indonesia is a great power even in its present form. Why kind people forget that. ASEAN as a block is one big engine of economic growth. When you add China this becomes global enginge of growth.

Anyone who denies the potential of India is making a great mistake. But at the same time... GDP by numbers alone means nothing really. It doesn't matter if the numbers are cooked are not.

Germany might have far lesser GDP on paper than Indian or China... but the quality of that economy is leagues ahead of any in Asia. Perhaps excluding Japan to some degree.

Sad truth is that this comparison business is about adding spice to sell news papers or create clicks on websites..

With any rational matrix there can not be any comparison of India vs. China. IF it makes feel good about themselves then they can keep comparing and trying to put each other down.

Chinese plan is about eliminating poverty. Indians think that its is critical to become a super power. Whatever that mean to be a super power. Wish both side best of luck.

Just don't start a war!

It was not India that rejected China's entry into MTCR.

That wasn't my point. :)

Please don't use flawed chibot logic. Even if India were a member of MTCR we would not have opposed China's entry because we are not insecure about being the sole supapawa. Especially by supporting failed states to needle peaceful countries.

And here you go again, making the laughable assumption that politics are played out at the whim of emotions.

Careful cost benefit analysis my foot. China was isolated at the NSG. You have to be living in perpetual denial to not notice that.

False. Ten countries voiced their opposition to India's bid, the decision of which is, as with every other political maneuver, the result of the benefits of India's membership to China but also the detriments thereof.

China opposed India's membership for obvious reasons. NSG membership means defacto nuclear power status. The group of 5 becomes group of 6. Something that's hurts chinese false pride immensely.

Pride had nothing to do with NSG membership; if it were the case, the United States, which arguably has a far more advanced civilian and military nuclear infrastructure than India, would've equally opposed New Delhi. By the sounds of it, the Chinese rationale was that India was not originally part of the NPT.

After Brexit, A Brit Immigrant Explains Why Britain Should Join India As Her Union Territory

First published: June 28, 2016, 3:01 PM IST | Updated: June 28, 2016

In a historic decision on June 23, 51.3 percent people voted for Britain's exit from the European Union. But as the fallout of Brexit sinks in, many of them are wondering if there is any way to remain in the EU.

In the hope of calling for a second referendum, approximately 3.9 million disappointed 'remain' camp voters signed an online petition calling for a do-over. But, of course, calling for a second referendum doesn't seem to be a practical option. The decision has been taken and now a new leadership is due to take charge in October and carry out fresh negotiations with the EU.

PM David Cameron, gave a word of advice in his Parliament statement: "The nature of the relationship we secure with the EU will be determined by the next government, but I think everyone is agreed that we all want the strongest possible economic link with our European neighbours as well as with our close friends in North America, the Commonwealth and important partners like India and China".

But the most interesting piece of advice on Britain's future options was given by this Brit immigrant living in India.

In his intelligent Facebook post, Nick Booker-Soni, from Bath, UK, writes why Britain should forget everything and join India as her Union Territory.

Read his post here on why he feels so:

Dear Britain,

Should you have voted to leave the EU by the time I wake up - don’t worry - I have a solution that should relieve both 'remainers' and 'leavers' equally. A moment comes, which comes but rarely, when we step from the old to the new….I’ve cracked the ‪#‎Brexit‬ conundrum!

Cameron needs to immediately apply for Britain to become a Union Territory of the Republic of India.

Whilst historically speaking it seems only right and proper to give India a chance to rule Britain for a few hundred years - it actually makes a lot of sense for the British too!

Worried about jobs? India’s economy is growing 4x faster than Europe’s and will overtake the entire EU’s sometime in the 2030s - becoming twice the size of the EU economy by 2050. In economic terms alone every young Brit should wish to replace their garish red EU passport with a classy blue Indian one ASAP.

Worried about the future of the NHS? India already provides nearly as many Doctors to the NHS as the EU does - and that doesn’t even include those of Indian origin, born or educated, in Britain. 25,055 Indian v 30,082 EU.

Worried about diversity? With over 100 different languages spoken everyday and adherents of every religion - even Britain’s favourite materialist consumption - there truly is something for everyone here!

Worried about being understood? English is one of India's two official languages - which will be a huge relief for all those have struggled to communicate with their continental neighbours for all these years.

Worried about not being part of something bigger? India has more than twice the population of the EU. Half of which are under 35, so the bonus is no more worries about an ageing population!

Worried about where to go on holiday? The Himalayas are nearly three times the height of the Alps and thousands of miles longer - there are more sandy beaches along India’s coastline than all the Costas you can dream of - and India has tropical rainforests and even a desert too! Plenty of visa free inter-railing adventures as well on the world’s largest railway network.

Worried about not being ruled by an unlected bureaucracy in a far away land? We’ve got that covered as well! Nowhere on the planet has perfected the shuffling of paper and writing of rules better than New Delhi - what’s more India’s civil servants salaries are more than 10x lower than Brussels. Talk about getting more for less!

British MPs, the whole of Whitehall and even the Royal Family (subject to the return of the Kohinor) can all be pensioned off at the fast expanding and internationally renowned Best Exotic Marigold Hotel chain in Jaipur.

Which would free up the Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace and much of Central London to become a permanent Bollywood film set. With more viewers than Hollywood this is sure to help keep London’s tourist economy going - which within a decade or two will be mostly Indians in any case.

Embrace the 21st Century. Swap Brussels for Delhi. Say Goodbye to Little Europe and Namaste to Incredible India!

But if you overestimate India, you are also making a mistake. India is not going to be the next China or have the biggest economy in the world by 2050. The ground reality differ greatly from politician's mouth.

But of course, you are right. The entire point is that it is useless to compare one with the other. Since, lots of indians here post their super power emergence... hence the reassurance to the kind souls.

This obssessive comparison business is really useless. China is quite unique among civilisations. It is the only civilisatioinal state still alive and thriving.

Wisdom is the root of your assessment while pride and arrogance is the source of the indian perspective, so if you think you can convince these indians, you're dead wrong.

Dear T-rex, I have a slight experience of what your are mentioning already. Have decided to avoid any mentioning of that south asian country altogether. BD, your country and PK together alone at present are about a $trillion plus economy, if you consider black economy in both countries. So, South Asia is just not one country.

If people realise that here in Europe we are having great financial and economic troubles. US is not improving much. Japan is in eternal recession. China is changing economic model. So, where the global growth is coming from?

SE and SA. But for growth, peace and development is necessary. Which a rational process. BD is growing quite nicely. So, is PK. But senseless nationalism is dangerous. Hope peace pervails in your region. This is good for everyone on this planet.

Sincere, thank you for avoiding the sense pride and hurbis. All the very best to your country and people!

More than 900 million Indians don't have internet access. How can you create an Asian Century without the Internet?

There are 2 vision. 1) where Indians see india as their mother and want to see her seating on throne and guide whole world as the guru called Jagad guru. Indian want india to be a wealthy prosperous society full of values.

The other vision in which they want themselves to a power anemically to west and dominate the whole world. They want to exploit and scare small countries and have a vision to merge them with china and exploit their resources.

How world shall be tomorrow shall be determined by the success of either 1 or 2.

That is a wrong figure. However, where there is an internet, there are free access to information available on net. You tube and other discussion forum are not banned here.

A least an honest self reflection. A sign of maturity. Why, sir, you stand out from the crowd of your countrymen.
But are either of 2 vision even attainable? What would be the difference between your country and the past exploiters.

Would it not be enough to become a develped country by the end of this century with no poverty among your people. This will be one of the great human achievements.

One whishes you all the best for peaceful development.

I guess when he meant Asian century, he meant India to piggback off China and take the credit. Just like their Mars mission when they took credit for others work.:D
