China tries to write its history

Please give me a reference to a truthful, reliable biography of Mao in English and i will read it to see the comparison to Jung Chang's work that I have read.

Maybe I'm missing something, but why does it matter what you think about Chinese history?

Are you Chinese? Are you a stakeholder in the Chinese civilization?

Or as you like to say... "are you yellow?"

Modern China is not led by Mao. If you have a genuine historical interest in him (which I very much doubt) then that is your own business.

You're not going to listen to anything we say anyway, so this is more of a sermon, rather than an actual discussion. As usual.

Read "The Unknown Story MAO by Jung Chang. It will open your eyes and break your heart, especially if you love the Chinese people. Mao Tse-tung was the most evil human being who ever lived. He was responsible for more deaths (mostly Chinese) than Hitler, Stalin or Genghis Khan.

So you are also denying holocaust .

btw we thought Bush and other american presidents were also in line for award of most evil people

.

The unknown stories of the native americans break our heart!

Concur!

The biggest genocide ever committed in human history has been by western colonists. Mao looks really pale in front of them.

According to limited studies, about 100 million native people succumbed under the massacring swords of the colonists, directly or indirectly. Some American told me that some colonists, after knowing that native Indians were vulnerable to European diseases, yet they purposely exchanged blanket or clothes used by those who died of or suffered from smallpox with Indians for other goods. This is akin to nowadays extermination of human race with biological weapon!

I was shocked!

Even today, Native Indians are socially marginalized, and their cultures are in jeopardy of being eliminated...

Exactly right.

100 million Native Americans were exterminated, due to them being seen as less-than human "savages". It was the biggest racist genocide, in the history of the Earth.

Not only that, but they also lost sovereignty over their own land. They are living as an endangered people in their own country.

At least the Africans managed to keep their own countries after colonization. That is saying something.

However, the Native Americans and the aboriginals were not so lucky.

...Professors Gregor Benton (Cardiff University) and Steve Tsang (University of Oxford) argued that the book was "bad history and worse biography" which made "numerous flawed assertions." Chang and Halliday "misread sources, use them selectively, use them out of context, or otherwise trim or bend them to cast Mao in an unrelentingly bad light." They discussed a number of specific errors and problematic sourcing practices before concluding that the book "does not represent a reliable contribution to our understanding of Mao or twentieth-century China."[26] Timothy Cheek (University of British Columbia) argued in his review that "Chang and Halliday's book is not a history in the accepted sense of a reasoned historical analysis," rather it "reads like an entertaining Chinese version of a TV soap opera." Cheek found it "disturbing...that major commercial Western media can conclude that this book is not only history, but terrific history."[27]

The funny thing in West is that, the more you misread sources, the more you use them selectively, the more you use them out of context and so on, as long as you say Mao is a Satan of this world, the merrier it will be accepted by overwhelming majority of Westerns.

Why? Because Mao is the first Asian that defeated united Western powers in battle fields in modern history. No such a thing ever happened before. And it has not happened after, yet.

That is why.

Is this Jung Chang the same one who wrote 'Wild Swans'?

Wild Swans was a very moving story!

Mao was not really a Satan. He turned an impoverished people and backward people into a disciplined people. His ways may not have appealed to many, but then he gave the shock treatment that the Chinese required and which has held the Chinese people in good stead thereafter.

He made mistakes that took a heavy toll, but then those were very difficult times for China.

He is the real hero of China!!

There is no "truth" in history, all are references. To "understand" better, one has to dig. Published records are for "education" purposes, extreme cases could be just propaganda. To better understand one's own history, the single most important reference is the "history" recorded by those who are the most hostile to you.

I do have a genuine historical interest in Mao. Can you recommend a reliable, factual biography in English?

Read his articles, or at least articles in his name; not some chewed up, digested freaking crap from another expert.

And better be in original Chinese, since there is no such thing as translation. To speak German, you think like German; to speak English, you are British. Language is integral part of any culture. All precision will be lost in translation.

Then I guess my answer to your post is: no.

I think he is a true socialist; he believed what he did. He never failed in life and when he saw socialist China was still lagging behind; without trying to locate flaws in a 100% socialist system, he went mad nuts and start the culture revolution (to make socialism as pure as it can be). He is a thinker, philosopher, strategist, and above all, idealist. This is my digested crap for you.

Admittedly Mao committed some crimes, but he is still the greatest Chinese in modern history. This is one of the reasons why (sorry it is in Chinese)

¶Ïµ¶-³¯ÏÊÕ½³¡´óÄæת£ºµ¶ÉùÕðµ´£¨ÉÏ£© - ËѺüÊÓƵ

Mao didn't commit crimes, he did make mistakes. Mubarak didn't commit any crime either.
Anybody in the world has to agree that Mao is a piece of work.

In strategy, thinking, philosophy areas, only some top-notch jews can compare with him. I f*ck-bashed jews in another thread. I am willing to give them some credit here. But he dosn't have a single drop of Jew blood. There are people in some areas in China to me just f*cking jews. no single drop of jew blood, but f*cking jews.

Mao's IQ I believe is between 140-145, middle tier genius level.
If you believe that sh*it called IQ testing.
