China to close Sino-Pak border for ten days | Pakistan Today | Latest news | Breaking news | Pakistan News | World news | Business | Sport and Multimedia
The Chinese government has decided to close the Sino-Pak border for ten days as part of stringent security measures ahead of National Day of China celebrations.

According to Hunza Nagar Police, a notification received from the Chinese government said that the Khunjrab Border will be closed from September 28 to October 7. Trade and traffic between the two countries will remain closed during this period.

The Chinese government has expressed concerns about threat of terrorist infiltration through Khunjrab Border in the past.

Such measures are routinely taken to guard the country against anti-state elements involved in subversive activities in the Xinjiang autonomous region, where sections of the Uyghur communities have been involved in a struggle against the government.

how come anti china terrorists get shelter in pakistan.

They get shelter in the Af-Pak border regions, by other terrorist groups.

Those terrorist groups hate the Pakistani state, they also hate China, and America too. (Apparently they hate everyone).

So they find the East Turkestan Islamic Movement to be a kindred spirit, since ETIM are also terrorists and extremists who hate the same things they hate.

Additional check posts to be set up along Karakoram Highway

GILGIT: The Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) government has decided to set up 17 more check posts on the strategic Karakoram Highway (KKH), which links the region to the rest of the country along with China.

The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting held in Gilgit under the chair of G-B Chief Minister Mehdi Ali Shah. “The purpose of erecting more check posts on the highway is to ensure a safe journey for commuters,” spokesperson for the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, Sajjadul Haq said on Wednesday.

Over three dozen check posts manned by police and Frontier Constabulary personnel already *** the highway from Gilgit to Besham. However, two separate terror attacks on the route last year claimed the lives of at least 30 passengers.

The importance of the highway has been compounded by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s recent agreements with the Chinese government regarding a railway route passing through G-B.

The cabinet meeting held on Tuesday night also condemned Sunday’s attack on All Saints’ Church in Peshawar and offered condolences to the family of Major General Sanaullah Khan Niazi and two other military officials slain by terrorists in Upper Dir on September 15.

Home Secretary Attaur Rahman and inspector general of police (IGP) briefed the cabinet about the arrests of suspects following the murder of security officials probing the massacre of 10 foreign tourists at a base camp of Nanga Parbat in June. Participants were told the arrest of the suspected mastermind of the attack on investigators led to clues about the perpetrators of other attacks as well.

Military uniforms recovered

The police have recovered military uniforms and a mobile phone from a house in Diamer valley’s Niyat village.

The uniforms were recovered following information divulged by key suspects arrested in connection with the murder of security officials in Chilas town, headquarters of Diamer valley, said a police official requesting anonymity.

“A man has been taken into custody while 10 army uniforms and a mobile set have been seized,” said the official, speculating the cell phone might belong to a foreigner.

The gunmen who stormed the Nanga Parbat base camp and shot down 10 foreign trekkers and their Pakistani guide were reportedly wearing uniforms of the Gilgit Scouts.

Indians trolling as usual.

Why not get opinions from the Pakistanis here? @Aeronaut, @Armstrong.

I'm sure they will appreciate that if there is information of a threat on any specific day (National Day in this case) that we should do everything we can to minimize the risk.

There are elements in Pakistan that support anti-state elements in China and provide shelter. The Pakistani government is already embroiled in conflict against these elements. Now, the national day of China is an important event which is more than likely to be targeted by such elements. Common sense dictates that if there is an area where such elements exist hence it is best to contain them as much as possible. It is the same logic that one takes if there is an outbreak in another country of a disease; even with efforts to contain it, the cure does not come overnight and forces the neighbours to close the borders to ensure their country is not effected with it.

It doesn't mean they neighbours hate each other or alliances have waned, but for some fools to interpret "higher than the mountains , deeper than the seas" as " You jump, I jump" or "You shoot yourself in the head, I shoot myself" is well, idiocy.
To try and jibe using it is pathetic. hence those of the tricolor or otherwise expressing reservations under what is a quite sane and diplomatically harmless move falls under the bold.

Thanks for the well thought out response. :)

We received a tip that something might be attempted on our National Day. I have no idea if the tip was reliable or not, since even if something was stopped it is still all classified.

But with situations like these, it is usually better to take the tips seriously. Just as a precaution.

Isn't it troubling that such a normal preventive event can cause gleefulness in a group of people?

No wonder their country is where terrorist attacks are so frequent.
