China snapped at India on Monday for its remark on the increasingly tense situation developing between China, Vietnam and Philippines in the South China Sea, sayingNew Delhineed not worry about it.

Beijing’s sharp reaction comes after New Delhi over the weekend said it was worried about the recent developments in the South China Sea where last week Chinese ships are said to have rammed into Vietnamese vessels. The incident occurred after Vietnam protested over the drilling operation of a Chinese state company-owned oil rig.

The ministry of external affairs had said it was concerned about the "recent developments" in the South China Sea.

The Indian statement added: "We would like to see resolution of the issue through peaceful means in accordance with universally recognized principles of international law."

India said freedom of navigation in the South China Sea should not be impeded, adding that “cooperation in ensuring security of sea-lanes and strengthening of maritime security.”

The Chinese reaction to the Indian statement was short but sharp.

“I have so many times stated China’s position on South China Sea. I wish to tell Indian people that they may not worry too much about the current situation in South China Sea,” Hua Chunying, foreign ministry spokesperson said at a regular briefing on Monday.

“As per implementation of the Declaration of Conduct of the Parties in the South China Sea (DOC), peace and stability in the South China Sea, China and ASEAN has important consensus and confident to uphold peace and stability in this region. We hope relevant parties will work with same direction towards China and make relentless efforts to this end,” Hua said.

Tensions flared in the region last week after the Philippines arrested 11 Chinese fishermen for fishing in disputed waters, which China claims as it own. Almost simultaneously, Chinese and Vietnamese ships got involved in the stand-off in the same region.

China is locked into dispute with several countries in the region over the ownership of clusters of islands.

The United States has called China's deployment of the rig "provocative and unhelpful" to security in the region.

On Friday, the foreign ministry blamed Washington for fanning tensions in the region by encouraging countries to engage in dangerous behavior.

China is over reacting!!!
China's crisp answer is nothing but a way to intimidate India and succinctly ask India to keep away from China's disputes elsewhere.
But then how's that even possible???How can India ignore the wrong doings of its neighbor???
If US and all of Europe 're worried about Ukraine and Russia then doesn't the same logic apply here too???

Why is China angry now? China was willing to entertain indian deception on South Asian matter but not on South China sea. Perhaps, Beijing need to learn, it can not be that selective.

Hegemonic China wants to deal with its neighbors one by one to fulfill its imperialistic designs, we should not allow them the opportunity.

Why not? Hegemonic India's been doing that to 6 of its neighbors for more than 40 years, without giving a slightest heed to international law.

I wonder why the Chinese spokesperson addressed his comment to the Indian people rather than the govt. or to the country. That was inappropriate.

Looks like the outgoing UPA is leaving back another pile of sh!t to shovel for the incoming new government.

India is slowly but steadily learning the game ;)

Too slow vis-a-vis China. I guess we hadn't set our own house in order all these years. Now that the concept of India has strengthened in most of our regions, we can finally try to look outwards and show some b@lls w.r.t our foreign policy.

provided that Present Indian govt days are numbered, this is smart move as they can not address next govt from now. Secondly, Indian Govt is representation of people so there is nothing inappropriate in addressing people

It should have. Wheneva China comes to us, complaining India's support to SE countries, we can always point out to China's doing nearby India. We should put them in the backfoot.
This is required , not for a confontration, but for a balance in strategic relations.

Just build an official alliance with China, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh. India will be fully contained. String of pearls strategy mud be accelerated.

Bangladesh should consider to give China Kutubdia Island for Submarine and Naval base:

For last several years, China offered to finance and build a deep sea port in Sonadia Island, 20 km south of Kutubdia, but Indian puppet Hasina did not agree, following Indian instruction:

A deep sea port built with Chinese finance and Chinese construction company at Sonadia and Chinese Naval base at Kutubdia island will be perfect protection for Bangladesh against Indian aggression.
