During Thursday’s meeting of the working mechanism for consultation and coordination on India-China border affairs (WMCC), the two countries decided to undertake more confidence-building measures to maintain peace at the border. The meeting was held at Chengdu in the province of Sichuan in China.

New Delhi (Sputnik), Rishikesh Kumar — China has reduced the number of troops along the border with India in the past few months, a senior official of the Indian government, who did not wish to be named, told Sputnik.

He said that the atmosphere at the Line of Actual Control (LAC) was really calm since the Wuhan informal summit when Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping met and issued "strategic guidelines" to their respective militaries to exercise restraint at the border.

"Confrontation is likely to further reduce in coming months as China has started replacing troops with powerful surveillance equipment. They have reduced the number of troops by over 30%," the official told Sputnik.

The newfound tranquillity at the loosely demarcated border is also evident from the sharp decline in the number of transgressions as compared to last year when the two sides involved in a bitter border stand-off for 73 days at the disputed Doklam plateau. The Indian official said that there had been 15% fewer transgressions from the Chinese side since the beginning of 2018 till September 15 in comparison to the same period last year.

During Thursday's WMCC meet, both countries explored various new measures to boost trust among the armed forces.

"They discussed ways to effectively manage border areas in accordance with the strategic guidance provided by the leaders of the two countries at the Wuhan Summit and explored various confidence-building measures with a view to further enhance mutual trust and understanding," a statement issued by the Indian Embassy in Beijing reads.

Earlier this year, during Chinese Defense Minister Wei Fenghe's visit to New Delhi, the two sides decided to expand "the engagement between their armed forces relating to training, joint exercises and other professional interactions. The two countries have emphasized that peace and tranquility at the border is an important prerequisite for the smooth development of their bilateral relations.

China has HSR which india has none... Hundred thousand troops plus equipment can be moved in 12-13 hours from 1000-1500km distance. While India has none of such luxury.

The question is do you want war with India?

PS: India has ability to mobilise large number of troops to any border as all border is close to populated territory. But there is no need to create tensions unnecessarily for barren mountain land if the other party (in this case China) is amenable.

India, China to sign internal security cooperation agreement

For the first time, India and China will sign an internal security cooperation agreement during the forthcoming visit of China's Minister of Public Security, marking a new beginning in bilateral relations, officials said Monday. Zhao Kezhi, China's Minister of Public Security, is expected to visit India next month and hold meetings with Home Minister Rajnath Singh during which they will discuss various aspects of security cooperation between the two countries. During the visit of the Chinese leader, an agreement on internal security cooperation between the two countries will be signed, a home ministry official said. The proposed pact is expected to cover areas of intelligence sharing, exchange programme, sharing of best practices, cooperation in disaster mitigation besides others, an official said. The move comes just a year after a two-month-long border stand-off between the India Army and the China's People's Liberation Army at Doklam on the India-Bhutan-China tri-junction. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping held an informal summit in Wuhan, China, in April this year which helped repair bilateral ties. A Chinese delegation met an Indian team on August 28 to hold discussions on the forthcoming visit of the Chinese Minister of Public Security and the proposed pact on security cooperation between the two countries, the official said. This will be the first such agreement between the authorities of India and China which look after internal security of the respective countries, the official said. While Singh is the head of eight central armed police forces with a combined strength of about 10 lakh personnel, Zhao is responsible for day-to-day law enforcement in China and commands about 19 lakh personnel. The forthcoming meeting may lead to a future India-China agreement on exchange of sentenced prisoners, another official said. Currently, India does not have an extradition treaty with China, nor a pact to exchange each other's sentenced prisoners. There are at least 10 Indians in Chinese prisons and an equal number of Chinese citizens in Indian prisons.

China and India has learnt their lessons from DOKLAM issue... As per my understanding, Neither China nor India want to engage directly... both knows that all the economic progress would be at stake in case of war... NUKES are big PEACEKEEPER...

China doesn't want war because China's relative power increases the most during peacetime. That's the ideal situation.

However at the same time China can't stand by and let others impose war on us. Luckily most of the world seems sensible enough to avoid starting a war with China... so far at least.

Wars are NOT difficult to start if the intention is there. The difficult part is reconciling differences while avoiding war.

It is more of India wanting to have a war with China. India is evil, you know why Nepal hates India so much? The presence of huge number of soldiers near the border for so many decades more or less proves who wanted to hav e war with who.

India posture has never changed from 1962, in 1962, evil India started the forward policy. Trying to encroached slowly into China territories, thinking that China having a famine that time will never strike back. China in order to defend its border. Give repeated warning to India but as usual, Indian always think they are very smart. Build each new military outpost further and further into Chinese territories. China decided to teach little India a lesson you will never forget until now.

More than 50 years has passed and Modi wanted to test water in Doklam and he got a reminder. India is number two in making lies and twisting facts to hide its ugly and hideous aggressor action. The number one of faking fact is USA. India as usual being an aggressor will make slandering call of other nation as invaders and then make its as a righteous call to invade others land.

Indians can't be trusted.
India is a double headed snake. Indeed, their words and policy are always flip flopping...
