China shows off advanced ship missile defence system

The HQ-10 is based on S-300 yes, but it is not S-300, consider it our "S-400," Russians came up with their upgrade and we did with ours.

Of course, reverse engineering entails the breaking of a said technology, understanding its principles and then implementing it in a similar design. In this regard, the Chinese have done so and were able to use it for naval platforms, which is in its own right quite ingenious.

To just reverse engineer today is actually not up to Chinese standards anymore.

I do not doubt that the Chinese are capable of their own R&D initiatives, but as it stands, they are renowned for reverse engineering. I see nothing wrong with reverse engineering as it allows one to understand to understand a different technology. This is part of transformational leadership which directly influences creativity, ingenuity.

Man, you guys are TOTALLY confused!!

HQ-10 is the Russian S300 (early version pmu-1). They are licensed built S300 with Russian approval and assistance.

HQ-15 and 18 are updated version of HQ-10 with updated radar and missile to extend their range.

Then came HQ-9, a newer version which is a totally indigenous system. The radar, missile, processor and computing system are all based on newer indigenous tech. But no doubt, the engineers learnt a lot from the Russian based HQ-10/15/18 development. They are continually updating the HQ-9 with the latest tech to compete with S400.

They are also developing a HQ-19 to play similar role with S500 and SM-3 (long range anti-ballistic missile and maybe anti-satelite) and there will one day be a navalized version.

HHQ-9 is the naval version of HQ-9.

The HHQ-10 discussed in the OP and pictured in this thread has nothing to do with the HQ-10 or HQ-9 or S300!!!!!!

It is only a CIWS that plays the same role as Western Sea-RAM!!

It isn't. This is a case of designation confusion, in which the "HQ-10", which is an informal name given to the land-based SAM, is lumped with the "HHQ-10", which is described here and is a completely different missile.

no,my friend im afraid you are completely wrong here. you are confusing the missiles. the missile mentioned in the article is also known as the fl-3000n (look this up in google) which is very different from the s-300 and other long range air defence missile systems

yes, the chinese missile designations can be confusing,, and wikipedia is not so good on names

it has nothing to do with reverse engineering or copying.

the hq-10 missile you are thinking of,is also not a copy of anything, it is literally the s300, purchased from russia
while the fl-3000n has no analog in russia, it is closest to the american sea-ram but clearly not a copy or anything as they operate differently.

Well, to be honest. It is confusing indeed. the HQ-10, HQ-9, HHQ-10, HHQ-9.... As long as I know, The Chinese RAM is FL-3000n. That's why just like Nihonjin, I was soo confused when they call the FL-3000n as Hong Qi 10

China has shown off the People's Liberation Army's latest hardware on primetime state television, an advanced short-range missile defence system said to have a “high success rate” destroying incoming missiles and aircraft.

The Hongqi-10 (Reg Flag 10) surface-to-air missile was shown in China Central Television's evening news bulletin Wednesday being fired from ships and land-based mobile launchers, and exploding in the sky on impact with its target.

It will protect warships against rockets over a limited area, and will be used alongside an “area defence system” which covers a larger area but has a slower response time, the state-run Global Times newspaper said Thursday.

“As a naval point defence missile system, HongQi-10 boasts a particularly quick response to low-altitude missiles that area defence systems fail to intercept,” it quoted Lan Yun, deputy chief editor of monthly journal Modern Ships, as saying.

It cited him adding that it had a high success rate in hitting its targets.

Incoming missiles only 1.5-10 metres above sea level can be targeted with the new system, which takes only 10 seconds to launch, Lan said.

The missiles can also used to protect ground forces from air attacks by ”jets, unmanned aerial vehicles and cruise missiles”, the Global Times report said, citing an expert.
The Hongqi-10, whose export version is known as FL-3000N, has been installed on some of China's most advanced warships including the 1,300-tonne Type 056 frigates and 7,000-tonne Type 052D destroyers, Chinese media have reported.

Beijing has been increasing its military might and naval reach in recent years, and President Xi Jinping regularly urges the country to strengthen its ability to “win battles”.

It's incredible that somebody can copy and build a product just by seeing them. China is definitely has a pair of magical eyes, or somebody is day dreaming. Or do they have the seaRAM?

chinese desinations for its weapons can be really confusing to those who do not follow it closely. there are manufracturer names, pla names, export names, internet names.

a single weapon or missile can sometimes have 5+ names, all referring to the same thing, to make it even more confusing, some times internet names are actually the pla name for a completely different weapon.

your joking right? your saying that is not a RAM copy? there are plenty of ways for China to acquire a RAM to reverse engineer. is the H-9 Harbin original? they did not have Dauphin helicopters before it?

Z-9 Haitun is not a good example,Harbin bought the patent from Eurocopter in 1980s.
Of course FL-3000N draw lessons from RAM's idea but you can't say it is simply a copy of RAM

its clearly the same concept as searam, but obviously not a copy. the missiles are different sizes, guidance is similar but based from different systems. its like your saying the su-27 is a copy of the f-15

and no one ever denied the z-9 is originally a lisenced copy of the dauphin, which is the subsequently developed into a variety of models

Now please, explain me, why the FL-3000N is a RAM copy? The shape that is almost identical to American's RAM?
