China sees ‘unique’ business opportunities in Pakistan

you have no idea what you talking about
ok i must agree with you to end this conversation

where am I wrong ?

All the modern air jet or rapier looms are imported from various countries.

Power plants are bought from foreign companies. If you meant electric meters, yes those are made in pakistan. The new digital ones too. That is kind of impressive.

And then with cement, all the cement companies have imported plants. None were made in Pakistan. Maybe the conveyor belts are local made as I know there are local engineering companies producing such simple components of production lines.

you know all these for a fact?
how is Pakistan supporting 200 million population if everything is being bought from China

I was working on some feasibility studies for someone....for power loom business and cement business. Power plant info is from hear say :D

Also, note that I don't have stats on %age of machinery by value that is made locally.....I just know that in general a big chunk comes from China and very little comes locally to the point that one gets surprised sometimes after seeing a locally made piece of machinery and wonders how it was possible and how long they'd stay in business lol.

By the way, I did mention that there is the low complexity/tech machines that are sourced locally. Maybe more local machinery was manufactured couple of decades ago, but then china took over.

I suppose it's been quite some time since you spent extended period of time inside pakistan.....So "door key dhol sohanay" perhaps....

when I worked there a an IT consultant i had to visit a lot of factories, what I learned that most plants are initially setup by foreigners because of the bank financing requirements but later most of the machinery is copy made in Pakistan. off course nothing indigenous but it works, thats what provides employment to 200 million population. Those Gujratis will come and take the entire machine and will bring the exact copy of it.

China sees ‘unique’ business opportunities in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Citing his country’s educated workforce, growing economy, strategic location and enhanced security, the Chinese commerce misinter was of the view that Pakistan offers unique opportunities for Chinese small and medium-sized enterprises, China Daily reported.“Pakistan has made detailed plans for its armed forces and local law enforcement agencies to better protect the Chinese citizens working in the country,” Pakistani Commerce Minister Khurram Dastgir said in an interview in Beijing. “The security is being taken care of at the highest level. We take security very seriously, and want to ensure nothing happens,” Dastgir said..

Pakistan for the next 20 years will be a top 5-7 best investment return market as everything will grow as the economy grows. After that, the profits will stabilize as the country will start to be on the developing side (note, NOT developed, developing). As soon as the electric issue is fixed, there will be a massive inflow of Western investments, focused on Technology, BPO, Manufacturing, etc. Future looks great for Pakistan....BUT, the political stability is the most important key. You mess up the system, the economy goes back to hell, period. So I hope the violent protesting, sit-ins and all this crap that brings down Pakistan, stays the heck out of the government's way for the remainder of their term. Then people can decide who they want, but nothing should harm the economy and stability.

Is there anything 'made in Pakistan' left in Pakistan? o_O

Does it matter? What do we make in the US outisde of the military hardware? Everything comes from "somewhere"!!! If Pakistan becomes a services economy, its perfectly fine as they have the educated labor to back it up. Once they are in the top 15th spot, who cares what they manufacture or buy from the outside. When you have services based $$$$ in trillions, you can afford to buy everything from the outside. Not the first time it would happen if Pakistan did it. What do the Arabs build? Jack squat!!! Yet, all electronics, all automobiles, etc, are first displayed in the Middle Eastern countries because they buy without mercy or care for "how much". The rest of the globe buys after thinking about if they can afford it!!

WOW!! Hope Pakistan doesn't follow your advice - you just can't ignore manufacturing for long and jump straight to service based economy totally dependent on foreign markets - India has realized this better late than never. Even the mighty US is tightening the trade barriers to prevent jobs from being shipped in manufacturing sector to China and India. They want to keep control of manufacturing - so that unemployment remains under control as well it offers certain degree of insulation from Chinese influence.

But anyway not my issue just couldn't resist pointing out a fallacious advice.
