China says still no compensation from Vietnam for riot victims

lol this is true, Guangxi is poor, it's understandable that if they can't find job in Nanning, they will come to Vietnam. But more people from Vietnam come to Guangdong, even they come to north China. My friend told me in his location, a North China city, hundreds of Vietnamese got married here.

he he, my Africans tell me that Chinese women are available in many African countries.

Poor people have their reasons to cross the border and work illegally: avoiding tax, earning more money, etc.
Employers have reasons to hire illegal worker: avoiding insurance, cheaper labor, free of any charge if accidents happen, etc.

It's unfortunate that Chinese workers lost their life during the clash, a civilian clash. But you guy must remember, China is the one starting that. No oil rig, no riot.

. .
Guys guys, how about we leave the women alone and fight like real men? Insulting women is no different from beating them up, and that's not cool.

A flare-up in strained ties over disputed sovereignty in the South China Sea sparked last month's protests after China towed an oil rig to an area claimed by both sides. The issue triggered a rampage of arson, destruction and looting of Chinese-owned factories and businesses mistaken for being Chinese.

At least four people died.

China has repeatedly pressed Vietnam to compensate its citizens and companies.

"As of today, Vietnam has not provided any compensation at all," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei told a daily news briefing.

"We demand that Vietnam take earnest steps to guarantee the safety of Chinese bodies and personnel in Vietnam, severely punish the assailants who created the disturbances and fully compensate the losses of Chinese companies and individuals."

Fighting between Vietnamese and Chinese workers broke out in central Ha Tinh province, killing at least four people and wounding at least 100. About 4,000 Chinese workers subsequently left Vietnam.

Chinese state energy firm CNOOC deployed dozens of ships in towing the $1 billion oil rig to a spot 240 km (150 miles) off Vietnam's coast. Vietnam and China traded accusations last week over the sinking of a Vietnamese fishing boat not far from where the oil rig was parked.

China claims about 90 percent of the South China Sea, displaying its reach on official maps with a so-called nine-dash line that stretches deep into the maritime heart of Southeast Asia. The Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei and Taiwan also have claims to parts of the potentially energy-rich waters.

Philippine President Benigno Aquino accused China on Thursday of pursuing an "expansion agenda". He said Manila had evidence that Chinese ships were circling two disputed reefs, weeks after Manila accused China of reclaiming land in another part of the South China Sea.

Hong dismissed the president's comments and restated China's position that it had "irrefutable sovereignty" over the Spratly Islands, one of the disputed groups of largely uninhabited islands in the South China Seas, and neighboring waters.

"Anything China does on any of these islands is within the scope of China's sovereignty and has nothing to do with the Philippines," he said.

They are victims of chinese oil rig 981, not Vietnam.
The compensation must be from chinese CNOOC who is illegally oil drilling in Vietnam's EEZ, not from Vietnam.

If chinese firms are not happy, they are free to leave Vietnam.

Yep, they wouldn't have gone to Vietnam if they already knew this tragedy. I strongly recommend people in China, for whatever reason - business or personal issue, try to avoid Vietnam. Those companies paid your govt taxes, but their people died, you force them to leave, without even a sorry or compensation? :omghaha::omghaha:

Sounds like we like to stay there....

Nothing, unless china withdrew its oil rig 981 out of Vietnam's EEZ , compensate and apologize Vietnamese fishermen and Vietnam's sea law enforcement forces.
Otherwise, chinese firms are free to leave Vietnam.

Maybe China should be the better person and forgive, and encourage dialogue instead of abrasiveness.

So much more countries in Asia would come to court China as a brotherly friend if they were more like that.

For example, China's relationship with Pakistan; its admirable and should be emulated. If China were to follow the same policy with its neighbors in south east asia and east asia...

i dont know what it is with Asia and how we are friendly with countries that are far away and not immediate neighbours

China and Pakistan being exception b/c we are neighbors.

I know there's a lot of bad history and currently a dispute over territorial/resources - but man imagine for example a full-on partnership between the great nations of PRC and Japan. Both are superpowers with so much talent and wealth.

Every companies suffered the damage in Binh Duong province, Vietnam, headed back to work.
While no company from Taiwan, Hongkong, Japan, Korea, Singapore ... blamed about the compensation, I wonder there's a different policy to Chinese investment or not ...

No Taiwan, Hongkong, Japan, ships hit Vietnamese fishing and authority boats, while Chinese made many damages to Vietnam innocent fishing boats, even sink their boats, pursue to kill fishermen
