SAC funded this project out of their own pocket mostly, and can be seen as their attempts to turn the table. CAC is stealing their thunder through J-10, JF-17 and J-20. Meanwhile, SAC is in a tough spot since they only have the Flanker series to play with (J-11B, J-15, J-16).

If they don't lock up that navy contract tight, it's the end of the road for them as a first tier arms developer.

From what it seems, the Navy and Air Force are doing separate contracts. SAC is building the J-21 for export and the Navy, but also seems to have received funding for a heavy fifth generation fighter. CAC on the other hand seems to have received funding firsthand for the J-20, but is unknown for the single engine variant.

I do not know, but by going through that forum, i am getting the idea that since SAC lost heavy 5th gen project to CAC, so it is very likely SAC is going to develop a medium weight 5th gen rather than heavier ones```

because according to insiders, CAC's J-20 is nation's top prioroty project which will serve as the prime fighter of PLAAF, but at the meantime PLAAF also need a lower-end 5th gen fighter to compliment it

Then wouldn't it make perfect sense to induct the J-21 rather than to build a brand new fighter of the same weight class? Huzhigeng did mention a fighter with WS-15 engines, so it definitely points to heavyweight class.

How many 5th gen aircraft projects are handled by China ? China is intelligent , they might produce some thing like Jf17 specially for Pakistan to satisfy and cool them .

Currently four:

- CAC J-20
- CAC J-2X
- SAC J-21
- SAC ????

It's very unlikely that all of them will enter service.

J-20 will win a contract from government for sure``dont know about SAC's J-2X and F-60 (depending on wether F-60 can win the hearts of Navy people, and foreign buyers, because pupu clearly said PLAAF wont induct F-60)

and SAC's J-2X not sure as it has to compete with CAC's medium sized J-20 version``

The J-2X will be competing with the J-21 for the Navy contract while the J-20 will compete or complement the J-XX for the Air Force contract.

Any thing specially for Pakistan like Jf17 ? I knew China will not give them sensitive tech . What about stealth version of Jf17 ?

lol my dear when china started this program they asked pakistan to join in it lol =))) it was pakistan who said no its not russia or us who dont give their best to tech to their friends :D

if this is a very stealthy fighter selling at price around $40m? guess what happen to the international market? It is lower price 5G for the 3rd world countries. Russia and F35 will have hard time to sell.

WS-15 can be used for single engined fighter, because its maximum trust will be 18T when its in service which is enough for small and medium sized multi-roll fighter

F-60 from SAC is for navy contract (until now we still dont know whether J-21 is chinese designation for F-60, or it is the designation for SAC's J-2X).....and SAC's J-2X is not in competition with CAC's J-20, as SAC lost the heavy stealth fighter competition decade ago...

PuPu said , SAC's is developing a medium weight lower-end 5th gen to compliment J-20````so there is no such competion between J-20 and SAC's J-2X

$40 m wont be possible, J-10B is around that price ATM```and with RMB appriciation, i wont be surprised if that price is well over $60m

Who the fu*k in the world would say no to technology ? :P Did i ever mention Russia ? China itself made a plane specially for Pakistan but didnt allow its other advanced planes touched by them .

You mean the way they've always done?
Didnt get you bro .

The Chengdu J-2X is slated for Pakistan.
What about stealth version of Jf17 ? Is it J2X ?

Rhetoric!! When did you last time see China refusing Pakistan about any sophisticated technology?

To remind you J-10 was the first fully indigenous and most advanced fighter of China during 2006 because no advent or appearance of J-20 took place at that time, during President Musharaf's visit to China in 2006 China not only offered Pakistan its most advanced fighter J-10 but also agreed to customize it according to PAF needs. Not only that SD-10 the most potent air-to-air missile of PLAAF was not only offered to PAF but also improved it to a level of SD-10B on PAF's demand

PAF pilots have been flying PLAAF and PLAN aircrafts and that is not in training or exercises but on frequent bases... Now tell me how many times IAF pilots have flown the Russian navy's or airforce's aircrafts in Russia without being involved in exercises

Not only that in past China provided us with M-11 instead of huge american and European pressure , then China was neither an economic power nor militarily as sound as it is today but still she sustained the pressure and went ahead with the proceedings.

Till today both countries have worked on various sensitive projects together officially or unofficially what else you want?

Its not about what China is offering its all about what PAF can afford ... The problem is not with Chinese offering but our economic crunch. Had the poor economy being not the hurdle i bet you, you would have seen J-20s in PAF colors in next couple of years or when ever they would have been ready for mass production.

I dont know why you people always live in illusions or its just that you love to be ignorant. Or may be you love to waste other's time thats why you come up with the same things time and time again

Let the sense of maturity prevail ...because its what most needed for the peace of this region rather than being so insane and taunting others for the things that don't exist

I think around 70-80 millions dollars.

Remember that China will be going for the highest performance possible in order to be able to compete with the F-35 and PAK-FA.

It will still be signifanctly cheaper than both PAK-FA and especially F-35.

it will be significently cheaper than F-35 for sure, but not much from PAK-FA as I believe...the insiders never talked alot about russian planes recently, but always using US fighters as the 'benchmarks'````i guess those SAC guys knew the best of Russian planes true capability and quality (since SAC have been reverse enginering Flankers for 2 decades) ..

so they are quite confident about competing with PAK-FA, price is definitly not the issue

What is your opinion on the quailty of Russian Avionics?

Will the avionics on the PAK-FA be truly 5th generation or merely just very good 4th generation?

This aircraft has enormous potential, especially for export......................but for that China needs an image revamp. It's being isolated for a long time causes only a few to buy Chinese military exports. That is why only a couple large countries have expressed interest in them..........
Opening a China up bit more to the world will improve the way world percieves China, and even the West will stop seeing it as a threat. This will lead to profit for everybody
