China’s military white paper plays down dispute with India

I'm talking about the articles that have been posted on this forum.

The one where the ToI was whining about China not mentioning India in one event was very popular and had loads of pages. Not to mention loads of views and comments on the ToI website itself.

Whereas the thread where Li Keqiang said he wanted to take Sino-Indian ties to a "new level" was IGNORED by everyone, and I personally had to manually restart that thread by pointing it out:

http://www.defence.pk/forums/indian...-back-back-visits-boost-india-china-ties.html

But for some reason the people reading these things are drawn to negativity and hostility. No one cares about the good news.

You are talking about the articles posted here ..... God bless you CD

Will reply rest of the post in that thread.

Some of the pakistani members are having a heart ache because there deeper than atlantic ocean friend have diverted it's attention toward SCS. They are alone once again against India, so no mischief for another 20 years for Pakistan. While India shields itself with Iron Curtain and remaining assembled with Iron Fist for Pakistan.

For ground forces, India is larger than China in number, India has 1.1 million soldiers while China only has 0.85 million

That figure caught my eye when I read it, and I was sure that that can't be true. It is widely known that China maintains the largest standing army in the world, by numbers. The writer of the article should have read the white paper properly, because for the first time in history, today China OFFICIALLY revealed the size of its army in this very white paper.

It clearly states that the size of PLAGF is 1.483 million personnel. There are 18 corps ("group armies") totalling 850,000 personnel (the figure latched on to by the writer of the article). Additionally, it has several independent combined operational divisions (brigades), and all these put together makes the size of the army close to 1.5 million.

This is similar to the Indian army's organisation, that of several corps and additional independent brigades.

Here is a better article about the white paper:

China officially reveals the size of its mammoth Army - Hindustan Times

On a side note, thesee figures go to show how much modernization needs to be done by asian armies, compared to western ones. The US army has only a total of 560,000 soldiers and yet their combat potential and force projection capability is much bigger than China's or India's, both of which have more than twice that number. Even China, who's army has modernized much more than India's, needs to maintain 1.5 million active ground troops for its home defence needs.

Chinese people dont know much about India and India was never a traditional enemy of china.

This is Politics.

We'd rather be "insignificant" than a cesspool of drones and American bases. Come back the day an "ally" of India uses its airbases to bomb its people. Having signed the CENTO and SEATO must have really boosted your significance, to the point that your own strong man, mard-e-momin, Mushy admitted that he caved into American pressure and gave them Pasni, Shamsi and Jacobabad. :omghaha:

Post reported for off-topic drivel.

The fact that 21 Indians thanked you shows how low the level of this forum has gotten. And then Indians have the gall to complain when people mention toilets and poverty in India.

That's because people are waiting for something tangible to come out of the visit before commenting.

What can you comment on the announcement of plans for a visit? Welcome?

Sir that post was in reply to a rather charming fellow from your side who's original post was just as irrelevant as it was lacking in content. By all means though- do continue to correct erring posters when you deem them to go astray.

His post was NOT irrelevant: in fact it was entirely to the point of the article and the title of the thread itself.

Perhaps he could have worded it more delicately to cater for your sensibilities, but there was nothing off-topic about it.

Other possiblity may be that situation between both the nations is now improving and chinese now don't want to bring in the insignificant matter of border dispute (when compared to the biletral trade with INDIA). Join military exerice is the proof of this newly developed trust and so is the visit of chinese destroyer to Cochi.

Doesn;t mean much to me.....ignoring the border situation is not solving it. Unless CHina takes the step to solve this issue, trust will never be there. China should make an effort that it has never done before to Mother India.

I see. True, a reduction in bellicose statements or mentions of certain CBMs does equate to irrelevance- not of the issues between the two nations or of the joint mechanisms instituted by the two nations but of India itself. Just as much as Obama's foreign policy debate and the lack of any mentioning of India within it are relevant to the thread. It seems I should hope that my country becomes even more irrelevant, after all the relevance of my country in this case is directly proportional to whether China issues statements on its issues with India. In the absence of any hostile or inconvenient remarks from the other side, caused by the negation of the need to mention India at all due to its irrelevance, peace and tranquility between the two nations shall find promotion.

In other words, no news is good news.

That is an alternative interpretation from the Indian POV, and you can argue that POV without the need to bring Pakistan into the discussion.

Sure thing Generalissimo. I shall keep that in my mind. I am beset by the unfortunate predilection for drawing unwarranted and perhaps displeasing parallels. Your objection has been noted.

No mention of "india" for dispute, no mention of it in the joint military exercises in china's white paper like the Obama Romneys Foreign policy debate where india was not even mentioned, this make it look how insignificant and unimportant india really is.

you should be happy...thats what really matters...keep smiling

Since when CHINA & US are holding the AUTHORITY of issuing CERTIFICATES OF SIGNIFICANCE to a country??

@Dillinger you shouldn't have reacted to the original post on the first place, if there is no country that issues CERTIFICATES OF SIGNIFICANCE than there is no country that issues a CERTIFICATE OF INSIGNIFICANCE either, besides one persons opinions doesn't mean its the reality.

BTW, he is a KID, once said that our missiles are bought from Russia & painted to sell it as Indian, when i grilled further, there wasn't any reply & i m waiting & waiting........;)

We were INSIGNIFICANT when we achieved the greatest MILITARY VICTORY on Earth after WW II.

We were INSIGNIFICANT when we achieve Green Revolution that made us INDEPENDENT in agriculture.

We were INSIGNIFICANT when we made BUDDHA SMILED in Pokhran the First time (only the sixth nation), we were so INSIGNIFICANT that US took a lead to form NSG immediately to deny any nuke tech to India & other nations.

We were INSIGNIFICANT when we became the ONLY nation on Earth to have LEGAL rights to trade in Civilian nuke tech. WITHOUT signing NPT.

We were INSIGNIFICANT when all P-5 nations backed us for UNSC permanent seat (again the only nation to get there support).

We were INSIGNIFICANT when Italians marines were FORCED to return to India.

We were INSIGNIFICANT when we LEASED a nuke sub from Russia (becoming only nation to get a nuke sub from another nation).

We were INSIGNIFICANT when we ....................................... *1000

Actually, they are right - We are INSIGNIFICANT.
